National Library Ireland, Morgan Aerial Photographic Collection

I chanced upon this by accident as someone had put a link to one of my photos of a Donegal railcar and I noticed a link on that to the above collection. I have been going through the 'catalogue' its really easy to follow . Click on one of the photos linked below and you will see at the top of the photo the title Morgan Aerial Photographic collection , click on this and it brings up a list of all the scans for you to work down. In the top right hand corner of the photo is a small view which you can click on to enlarge.

This is a superb view of the Irish Cement Factory at Drogheda (not Platin, the title is wrong)particularly when you enlarge the relevant bit.

Jim there are a couple of parts of Stranorlar, I didn't realise there was a large bus garage on the station forecourt but some interesting roof detail of the station building. Also distant views of Donegal Town station.

If you zoom in on this  aerial photo from 1955, you can see the trackbed of the Clifden branch from the station across Forster Street, into the cutting and open tunnel mouth under Prospect Hill, across the Corrib, and all the way down through Newcastle and Dangan. The embankment to and the bridge across Forster Street  appear to be gone, as well as the Corrib bridge, but the rest looks intact.

It's astonishing to see the size of Galway, and the extent of its rural hinterland compared to today.

  Galway would make an excellent L shaped layout but would have to be VERY BIG.
