Bayside Canadian Railway

Stumbled across this odd little railway on one of the freight industry Journals, would make an ideal micro layout for some one who is VERY space limited.. Consists of about 100ft of track with a road/rail tractor and two flat cars.. But is is fully functional and due to a strange quirk in the US Jones act it serves a commercial purpose!

That’s fascinating, and a rule that just sounds so Irish! With a bit of imagination, not hard to envisage a Brexit or post-partition scenario Irish line like that….’.any cattle transported by rail across the land frontier go duty-free etc’ - cue a 100 yard stub of the SLNCR crossing the border !

Irish Steel had a similar operation at the Haulbowline between the 1970s and the closure of the mill during the 1990s.

The system was 4'8½" gauge and use second hand flat cars and gondolas imported from the United States and a Unilok tractor possibly built in Galway! https://www.unilok.ie/

A good excuse to model an Irish railway in HO with rtr American stock and an Irish shunting tractor.
