The MGR train did several circuits after which the magnetic couplings began to fail as shown below.

The couplings are from West Hill Wagon Works and are the latest of several failures I have had with their couplings.  I am forced to conclude that they have a good concept but their execution and engineering is poor.  Alas I won’t by buying anything else from them in future.

I plan to make my own fixed bar couplings (like I did with the Freightliner Flats) and create permanently coupled rakes of 5 wagons with tension locks at each end.

Cheers

Hornby APT taken for a spin on the layout this morning - all fourteen coaches 😀

The full APT successfully negotiated the helix down to the lower storage level - at least in the downwards direction…

We’ll check upwards next week.

The layout has now been dismantled in preparation for my friend’s (and shed owner) house move in March.

A brand new shed is to be erected at the new house and the layout will be reinstalled in the new shed.

Dismantling was undertaken with minimal damage to the “scenic” part of the layout.

The new shed will allow us to iron out the bugs that were popping up with the original layout concept.

Watch this space…

Cheers
