Railway Lyons Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Have had a scribble of a TMD layout floating round for ages, with no idea where it came from. So have take the time to redraw it out and begin to make something of it. Mainly been missing having somewhere to test/run locos, and large attic layout is a while away after flooring, insulation and electrics etc. Aim is to be constructed of 3x 3'x2' boards, 2x scenic, 1x fiddle yard/traverser, to make up a 9'x2' layout. Should fit in the back of the car. Will be DCC (system to be bought), but will have computer control, so maybe Z21 or JMRI. Initially thinking naming it Páirc Ghuaire TMD (or MPD) when in Irish guise, or Gorey Park TMD when/if in British guise. 14
Railway Lyons Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 Due to a rather expensive car repair on hybrid system, emptying all money put aside, this project is delayed for a bit while the bank accounts recover. Hopefully not for too long, but updates will come as soon as possible. 2
LNERW1 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Ah well, all the best anyway. Looking forward to this, the track plan looks really interesting.

WRENNEIRE Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 "Should fit in the back of the car. " Much prefer to run them in the shed! 1
Railway Lyons Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 Timber store has been visited, and the supplies obtained to construct the required boards. Construction to begin very soon and will be documented as I go. Here is to a hopefully successful year, and a new layout to see in 2026. 5
Railway Lyons Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 Glad to report that baseboard assembly has begun, with daughter being my apprentice. More over Christmas, and see hiw we get on. Concrete sleeper flex to be obtained, and then track laying can begin. 8
Railway Lyons Posted October 10, 2025 Author Posted October 10, 2025 After a long delay waiting for concrete sleeper code 100 to be in stock and being able to afford it at the same time, we have all the flex and points we need to begin. So here is the initial rough layout. Might be slid round a bit for clearances etc, but not far off. Once all in right place, cork to be laid, sleepers spaced on flex, and wiring. Only realised looking back other day, it's 10 years since I have had a running layout of my own, so we are getting there. 9
Railway Lyons Posted October 19, 2025 Author Posted October 19, 2025 Update report: Have laid cork down on 60% of the layout, but stocks have run out, so have to wait until Blackrock show visit for more, and some insulated fishplates. Employing the "anything will do" method of weighing it all down. 7
Railway Lyons Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 Hi All, Bit more work done on the layout today. Slight rejig of the placement of points to give the space required for storing 2-3 locos on each shed road, and avoid joins. And a lot of sleeper spacing of Peco Code100 to look much neater, and the rail looks more streamline. 1st board also wired now too. Seep motors I have from dismantled layout. 7
Tullygrainey Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Adjusting the sleeper spacing makes a real difference, visually. Tedious work I'd say but well worth it. Looks so much better. 2
