Hello fellow modellers,

my name is Eduard and I am from Vienna\Austria. I am a fan of railcars and currently looking for information, specifically plans or drawings for the County Donegal Railcar No.11 'Phoenix'.

I tried several searches in the net and your forum here, but I have found nothing, maybe I am searching with the wrong terms...

So, if someone has plans, drawings or measured sketches, or can point me in the right direction, it would be most appreciated!

Thanks a lot for your help.

Eduard

Hi Eduard,

It's really a Loco (Not Railcar) as no passenger seating is provided.

Started out life on the Clogher Valley  as a Steam Loco, but was changed to Diesel when taken over by the County Donegal.

As for plans , I need to think.

This isn't a drawing, rather the instructions for a kit, but has a bit of history too:

Phoenix.pdf

I'm sure I've seen a drawing of either Phoenix or the Atkinson-Walker steam loco it was converted from, but I can't find anything with a quick look through my library.

Hi @Mol_PMB

You pointed him to a PDF of my plans (I sent all the Backwoods 00n3 Range through to  EDM for the archive)

Mark.

As for plans I'm drawing a blank but there is the Alphagraphix card kit E11

IRISH NARROW GAUGE | alphagraphixkits.co.uk

7mm scale but both sides front back roof etc printed on heavy card. Just measure and work from that.

@Ted54  What scale are you thinking of?

Scratch aid kit in brass is available from Worsley Works in 4mm and 15mm

Not aware of any scale drawings of Phoenix or the original CVR steam loco.

A sister loco of the steam tractor operated in England and has a drawing here - http://www.merionethrailwaysociety.com/lady-m.html (and another in the Red Lake tramway book).

However, the maker's records where lost so these are just outline drawings and the loco underwent significant changes when the CDR converted to diesel.

Not the best photos, but I took a few snaps on my phone you can access here. https://photos.app.goo.gl/83c7dxBXXtEiqibo9

The Alphagraphix card kit is worthwhile and very cheap. The Worsley Works etches are a decent start, but no instructions or chassis.

It is 7mm scale and I first built it as the original Atkinson Walker steam tractor for my Clogher Valley project. Got quite a bit of information, which starts on page 14 of David's Work bench in that section of this forum. It is since been remodelled as Phoenix, which you can find on page 35, while there are photos in the Layouts section under Clogher Valley Project.

Theres a drawing for her in The County Donegal Companion by Roger Crumbleholme  ( Mr Alphagraphix) Published by Midland Counties.Which should be by every right and proper thinking persons bedside cabinet, and a small but useful diagram drawing in the revised Patterson Donegal book. If you are looking at doing it in 4mm  the standard Halling variable 4 whl chassis is just right.Andy

There are a few beautiful engineer sectional renderings of a sister loco, the boiler, Uniflow engine section, and text description in this book;-
