Bachmann 141 sound chip

Hi all,

For a Bachmann/MM 141 (not the new release) which sound chip do you need ? 

Will the new model 141 sound chip work in it?

The older Murphy Models 141/181 are fitted for DCC but are not fitted with speakers you would have to do that yourself .

Am always conflicted with the thought of altering the original though the results are fantastic. I also fear I don't have the skills and would be soooo annoyed if I damaged one of these wonderful models.

I recently bought a sound chip for my Murphy Bachmann 181 from Roads And Rails.

He emailed me after I had put in my order to ask whether I had the old Bachmann or the new Murphy version, so there must be some difference.

I haven't gotten around to fitting it yet so I can't give you the full review, but I might try to tackle it this weekend.

My understanding is that there are differences in the locos’ circuits, particularly the function wiring such as lighting. The ‘wrong’ chip could no doubt be re-programmed to suit the loco if you have a lokprogrammer.

It says on the new chips not to use them on the older locos
