spudfan Posted Thursday at 12:09 Posted Thursday at 12:09 (edited) Watching "Where Eagles Dare" recently, Richard Burton and the boys were going through a railway yard. On one of the walls "LSR" was painted in big letters. I wondered whether that had anything to do with the Lough Swilly Railway. Seems they were a bigger outfit than I thought. Mayner Posted Friday at 09:21 Posted Friday at 09:21 I remember seeing a "Lough Swilly"  branded artic heading South on the M6 through the West Midlands during the late 80s. Not sure if the tractor & refrigerated trailer was branded "Lough Swilly Transport" or "Lough Swilly Freight" . But nice to imagine the Swilly was shipping fish direct from Donegal to the Billingsgate Market. Regularly drove the M1/M6 between London, Wales and North during late 80s-early 90s, one and only time I saw a Lough Swilly truck 1
airfixfan Posted Friday at 11:04 Posted Friday at 11:04 The Swilly operated their own passenger and road freight services for over 50 years after they closed rail servicrs in August 1953. 1

It looks like the companies bus and freight operations were split in 1982, the freight operation apparently continuinbg as "Lough Swilly Freight" after bus operations ceased in 2014. https://www.flickr.com/photos/northernblue109/43313466562/ Â
airfixfan Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Should have been more precise bus services continued until 2014.
