I live in Stafford and one of it's claims to fame is the station announcement stating that "The train now standing at Platform Three is the mystery excursion to Barry Island"..

I wonder if the train staff could be persuaded to wear blindfolds and see who fell for it..?

With the advent of Social Media and Text Messaging etc it would have to be classed a state secret for you not to know where it was going!!

Next time we will get one to Feltham through the secret tunnel and on to the enchanted Hounslow loop line now that would be a good mystery tour.

Rememeber when they would run them with the cravens once
Be nice to see them back up on railtours and branches but mightnt be likely due to their condition
And 2 were sold off to maam cross not too long ago
But only time can tell

You mean the older “heritage” stock?

Hypothetically, it’s possible to run them on main lines but it absolutely won’t happen for a number of reasons.

They are VERY long out of use. Very major and eye-watering expensive upgrades and modifications would be necessary first.

Second, with double-blocking and single line only working, they’d be banned from some routes, and on others modern levels of services (even on Sundays) would make timetabling paths impossible.

The only way to travel in Ireland on heritage mainline stock is, and will remain, Downpatrick. We are extremely lucky to have this line, especially after the negative attentions of Mother Nature, who diverted Noah’s flood there, and the local brain-dead vandals on several occasions.

Thanks @jhb171achill
I was familiar with the condition of the body seeing them in person and remember looking at the video of them being moved from heuston to inchicore, they looked so fragile even at such a low speed

It mightn't be likely and could end up like what the RPSI did with a hunslet they had

But would be brilliant if the remaining 6 do get preserved especially hearing on trackwork being done as of now👍

Also wondering what lines/routes they are banned from doing?
