PorkyP
Has anyone built any of the Alphagraphix card kits?... Are they any good? ..I'm assuming they need a fair bit of modification, with detail parts adding to look convincing especially in 7mm scale. I thought one would make a good starting point though, and they even do a station on the C&L which is my particular interest.. Any advice or info on building these kits would be much appreciated..! Galteemore
I’m working on one of their rolling stock kits right now, using it as a drawing to cut out my own plastic parts. I will hopefully post the results later this week. They are a great starting point. Here’s my first Irish wagon which I made from an Alphagraphix card kit - what I would do if making it now is use the kit as a template for plasticard scratch building. But it got me started! Thoroughly recommended. Edited June 29, 2019 by Galteemore
PorkyP
That looks great ! Love the battered look, right out of "the great squishing drama of 1959" !!
Galteemore
Thanks! A lot of the squishing was due to my mangling of the kit...hence my new technique of using plastic! But it was a good test bed for starting out in 36.75mm gauge...check out ‘Arigna Town’ for a master class in using these kits from someone who does know what they are doing! PorkyP
The squishing works though ! I'll try and find some of his wagons, you have to do some long winded thing of getting a catalogue thru the post or something I believe....?
Galteemore
That’s the business. I’ll post a list of what you might be interested in to get you started...o I should add that I was lucky enough to see his stall at a show. Here are some buildings he produced as samples..... 1
PorkyP
Top man ! Thanks for that.... I'm assuming you've not tried doing a building ?
Galteemore
Not as yet. I have actually built more of his brass stuff than card. But I have building kits in store.for my project David Holman, an esteemed member here, has employed them, using them as a pattern. His layout Belmullet is on here and shows what he has achieved. It’s impressive.
PorkyP
I'll have to search it out and see what he does with them, tho as you say he's using them as a pattern rather than make the kit itself. First off I'd probably just make the basic kit, (bit like you did with the wagon)..but maybe make more detailed windows etc, and perhaps the roof would need a bit more of a 3 D than flat card would give, and a bit of weather effect and such..
Galteemore
Good plan. The kits are cheap so even if you don’t make something you’re happy with it’s not a big issue!
PorkyP
And even if you wreck it, you've still got a template pattern to try again !
Irishrailwayman
I used more than 20 Alphagraphix kits for my "Ballybeg" layout in OO. The wagon kits work well too in this scale.
Galteemore
Great work there. They totally identify the layout as Irish even if no rolling stock is visible.

Irishrailwayman
A couple of Alphagraphix card kits in 7mm built recently by John Walker of Wexford MRC and currently on display on the club's test tracks. Note the fully detailed interiours in the Signal Cabins:
Galteemore
Nice work. I tend to maul Roger’s kits about so it’s nice to see some built as the maker intended!
