josefstadt
Following on from an earlier post (British Outline Modelling / Hattons train formation guides / August 2) here are some further examples of train formations on the CIÉ/IR/IÉ and NIR systems. K801
Hi Josefstadt, great stuff, any idea what the Sunday evening Waterford to Dublin Houston 14 piece would of been made up of? If I remember right, it was an 071 class + GSV + MK2D EGV + 11 MK2Ds + MK2D EGV You could hear the 071 all the way to nearly Thomastown or a clear night!
josefstadt
Hi K801, I haven't found any notes to give me a conclusive answer to your question. I'll keep digging and also put out feelers to see if anyone else has an answer. What era are you talking about?
K801
Thanks. it was the early 90s, used to go out late on a Sunday evening, around 6pm

K801
Just guessing but I think the GSV was just extra capacity for carrying mail and I nearly bet the rest of the train was two Mk2 sets combined. Definitely was a 14 piece train thou!

DiveController
Oh, yes K801. I understand you now. Did the MK2 EGVs have any luggage capacity? The old 4 wheeler heating vans did and I'm pretty sure that most GSVs did.

The two EGV were needed for long sets, I think one could power up to 11 then for 12 or 13 they'd have two EGV, the jumpers being disconnected between the two middle vehicles so each Generator Van powered half the coaches.
