The house is still being re-wired but should be finished this week when I should then be able to access my PC. The good news is that I have finally received some 119 negatives taken by Nick Nicholson and WAC Smith in the early 1950's and I have scanned them in on my Lap Top. Almost all of them were taken in the area Strabane - Omagh -Clones Cavan Belturbet Enniskillen Glenfarne Manorhamilton Ballyshannon and Donegal Town. Cavan ex M&GWR C212 23 September 1957. SLNCR Enniskillen at Enniskillen with the train crew and staff 21 September 1957. 'Enniskillen & 'Lough Melvin crossing at Glenfarne 8 June 1957.

VS 207 on an IRRS Special at Cork, Glanmire Road 17 March 1962. A bit, well a lot poorer quality than JG Dewings slide above; 154 at Ennis 16 August 1994. These 2 need the locations idenified. Unknown F6 at unknown location er photographer unknown , probably ca 1961. EDIT Inchicore and F6 42. Similar lack of information on this ex GNRI 4-4-0 . I think it might possibly be Derry .

I'm trying to dream about what I can build in a 10 feet x 2 feet space to replace Glengarriff but my dreams always end in nightmares about the up-coming re-wiring!
-
Glengarriff closed suddenly today due to the impending re-wiring of the house being brought forward from next Spring to next Monday! The loft needs to be cleared to facilitate this and the local Authority has decreed that basically I am too decrepit to be climbing all those stairs and once everything has been renovated she says I can build a new layout on the Landing next to my Den. The station boards departed tonight to pastures new. One small piece of good news is that Four Masters Bridge will be retained as a diorama so all is not lost.

A couple more JG Dewing slides. The first is the entrance facade to Belfast GVS on 25 May 1964, the only buildings recognisable today is the block containing the "Crown Bar and Robinsons Bar with a Barber's sandwiched between them. The next one is a thatched cottage in Newtonstewart on 3 May 1964, it may have been of railway interest as its painted blue. Lastly a giant cast iron netty which Galteemore has kindly identified as being in Victoria Square, Belfast June 1964.

Yes you are correct the Saltburn - Manchester Airport TPX service doesn't run via Darlington but goes direct from Eaglescliffe to Northallerton via the old 'Leeds Northern' Main line and then via the East Coast Main Line to York etc .

3 Cavan & Leitrim today , I particularly like JG Dewings shot of 5T at Dromod terminus on 22 May 1957 with (I think) ex T&D companions coach and bogie van plus the local passengers. The other 2 views are at Ballinamore, 3L on the Arigna train 26 August 1954 and 12L 21 May 1957 (Dewing's developing a bit suspect on this one) The last view is at Cork J11 220 July 1955.

Question about NIR & Irish Rail fotopic website
Irishswissernie replied to IrishTrainScenes's topic in General Chat
Fotopic went bust over 10 years ago and it took a few months just to get them to set up a temporary facility to retrieve files. I had some 15000 odd images on there which eventually were then put onto my Flickr 'Ernie's Railway Archive' You can recognise the ex Fotopic images as they used a - instead of a space between words and the retrieved files still have the 'underscore' as I couldn't be a*sed er didn't have the time to re-title them. They also owed me over £100 commission for photos they had sold plus the bulk of my annual subscription fee. On the whole Flickr has been far more satisfactory. C'est la vie! -
An interesting comment from Jonathan Allen on the original Aghadavoyle station Flickr post. 'Cabin closed 1965 - presumably at the same time as Goraghwood - Newry - Warrenpoint. Lever frame was on the first floor of the station building (in the bit jutting out) and later collapsed through the floor! For many years, it could be clearly seen when passing by train.'

4 JG Dewing views today; the first is ex W&T no 4 (GSR 486) built by Andrew Barclay in 1908 at Waterford Manor in April 1940, although looking in good fettle the loco was withdrawn the following year. 3 views of Aghadavoyle bank and Aghadavoyle station. The station view is 8 June 1961. The other views are from the loco, SG3 UTA 35 on 31 May 1961 and there are some 18 slides of this trip up the bank and another trip on W Class 104 on 1 June 1961. A bit repetitive as they feature mainly the open countryside. I will add the others to flickr in due course.

I now have that original slide as well. I didn't know the loco portrait slide existed but Mr Dewing had had a go at re-composing the slide image and I have had to clear some sticky tape off it before I could scan it. This probably put publishers off using it in the past. This is the one of the train at Manorhamilton Been on this topic before.

There were some more CDRJC views in the latest Dewing lot Jim. Here's a couple plus one for 'Galteemore' I think he might like it. Donegal Town Railcar 20 26 May 1957. Stranorlar, Ex DBST converted to Trailer 3 plus a bit of the Turntable detail a not so common view looking south. 24 May 1957. SLNCR 'Enniskillen' at Manorhamilton 27 May 1957.
