I last visited the USA in September 2014 staying at my Daughter's at Layton in Utah. Her home was situated next to the Union Pacific main line between Salt Lake City & Ogden, an ideal site to sit on the veranda and film the heavy freight traffic plus the passenger Front Runner trains. The day before I was due to fly home I was lucky to video the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Baileys Circus Train as it headed to Ogden. I have just got round to converting the original clips chip to MP4; I did the Durango & Silverton and Cumbres & Toltec material many years ago! The Circus Train lasted until May 2017, I think the UK ones went in the 1950's and no doubt there were Irish ones back in steam days. Click on the Black bit below and it should play.

Royal Mail finally delivered this one today and think it might be a good one to start the New Year off. SLNCR 1956-07-xx Sligo Railbus A (2nd) after re-bodying ref25j+002 I have done a bit of 'ferreting ' amongst my reference books and note that after re-bodying in 1950 it had a grey rather than white roof. Also one of the panels has a slightly different shade of green.

Found another one which shows a bit more of the Turntable pit construction.
-
The Turntable at the works had gone by the time of the Ordnance Survey 1900 map. The one at the shed below with 171 on it in 1969 I would estimate at 45 to 50 feet diameter.

I managed a visit to the Durango & Silverton & Cumbres & Toltec in 2014. Officially I was visiting my daughter and Grandchildren in Utah but her then Father-in-Law suggested a week using his RV to visit the 2 lines and I er reluctantly accepted his offer. Durango was very tourist orientated but Silverton was great. Chama was superb and you were able to wander all over the station and yards apart from inside the 'roundhouse' We chased K27 463 on a crew training trip to Cumbres and then went on to Antonito where we we lucky to catch the daily trip freight on the standard gauge line from Alamosa. Videos and stills on flickr plus some earlier views from 1964 when the Silverton was still operated by the D&RGW.

Madame has spent the nignt at Daugter No 3's house looking after one of the 3 month old twins who has a cold so as has had little sleep I have suggested that she has a nap whilst I amuse myself in my 'den' . I normally upload to Flickr on Christmas Morning at 6 am whilst the rest of the house; ie Annie and the Dogs are still fast asleep (Not like the old days when our 5 kids thought the ideal time was to wake up at about 2 am and start clamouring for their presents.) Here is the Irish section of the upload. GNRI 1956-04-28 Clones 202 on 9.00 Dublin- Enniskillen yj136. CIE 1970 's Dublin Connolly 019 131 046 142 yj096. Ballina, 087 Ca 2000 justa076. I was thinking in November that my Flickr site total hits since I started in a small way in 2009 with the demise of fotopic would reach 65 million by the end of 2024 but this figure was reached on friday. There has been the usual upsurge in daily hits pre Christmas which normally continues until the New Year, viewing the site probably acts as a relaxation from the hectic festive season plus the lack of much of interest on the TV! I don't close for Christmas so watch out for more images over the next fortnight. Have a good Christmas and New Year everyone! GNRI today. GNRI 1959-05-12 Londonderry,Foyle Rd. U 202 JGD590814. I am OK with images off my Flickr site being used on here but will want 'dosh' if used commercially or for profit. -
I don't think that I uploaded this video to flickr along with my other ones several years ago, mind you its quite possible Ihad! Its a 9 minute segment and flickr originally would only take 3 minute clips. North Wall with 088 on a Tara, then 168 182 076 170 in the yards and finishing with 081 on cement at Limerick Junctionand 169 on mixed bubbles and bagged mts from Waterford. 2003-06-A North Wall-Limerick Junc 17jun03.

This photo came to light today , this usually happens when I am looking for something else. A layout which was developed ca 2010 featuring one of my SLNC North Star 0-6-4t's plus one of my sons 3D printed narrow gauge 0-4-0 'wing' tank locos. The SLNC tank is now back in Ireland and has featured on IRM several times over the years. Alan's tank loco has no doubt moved on as well and the layout went the journey pretty quickly as someone wanted her Living room re-modelled with the consequent total anhilation of the railway room.

Although they are AGFA slides rather than Kodachromes they are looking good. I have 63 so far and whilst most are the usual locations there are some different views at Warrenpoint, Finaghy, Lisburn etc and most feature trains rather than just loco portraits. More on the way hopefully together with a copy of the photographers records.
