A few more acquisitions this week. EDITED I am told that this is also probably at Poyntzpass, where the people are, the siding for ballast wagons was installed later so probably also 9 September 1967. 186 was shunted here to let the train past. (Photo 5) 2nd one. I think this one is 9 Sept 1967 and at Poyntzpass on a Belfast service. 3rd one. CIE 1965-1967 Wexford South 2608 . Fouth one. My favourite and the Ken Cooper Original off E Bay. SLNCR 1957-09-21 Enniskillen Railcar 'B' 4.20pm from Sligo. 7.20pm mixed on right WACS950. I originally missed uploading this one because of the nasty scratch which I thought might have been a hair on the scanner. I then forgot about it until today when unfortunately it does turn out to be a fault on the film itself. West Clare 1960-03-24 Lahinch F501 JGD600124. UTA 1967-05-26 Belfast Queens Quay. Pen - Y - Bryn NG7 & Conway Falls OO9

Ballasting underway although there won't be much actual ballast on view at the end. At this stage in a layout's construction I always have to remind myself with the thought that 'relax this is probably layout number 40 odd you are constructing and it will be ok' I have also re-titled the layout 'Pen - Y - Bryn' which is a hill to the south west of Penmachno. -
4 John Dewing slides today. It appears that GNRI practice on the Dublin-Belfast Main re ballasting was to pack the sleepers with ballast underneath the chairs/rail but leave a depression on plain track in the middle possibly to assist drainage. Interesting detail to model along with a line of new or re-placed sleepers (its hard to tell which) on the last photo. GNRI 1963-05-19 Wellington Bank 91 JGD630606. Yes ,the photos are of the locos being used on the RHTT (Rail Head Treatment Trains) during October to December. It only takes a few days for the locos to get covered in muck. 2023-10-23 Melkridge 68022 + 68017 RHTT in action.

Pen - Y - Bryn NG7 & Conway Falls OO9

I Have added the new NG7 layout 'Machno Yard' to this topic as the layout represents the Penmachno Slate Co's mineral line from the Llanwrst & Penmachno Railway up the valley to its quarry at Blaen Glasgwm. This is modelled in RG7 or 0-16.5 scale rather than the 009 Conway Falls Layout and represents the Quarry Company's shed and yard to the north of the village of Penmachno. Track laying and electrics are now complete and the attached photos show the general layout of the scene. The through track is also used by the Irish 00 layout 'Four Masters Bridge' to complete circular access to the joint fiddle yards via a removable drop board. across the doorway. -
I have now re-wired the continous run after re-laying the former now defunct Mullaghmore with 0-16.5 track. The video also shows the scenic extension to the Drowes River scene with backdrop board in place. The video also features an 0-16-5 test train using the line to access the fiddle yard. The 'Quarry Hunslets' are quite powerful for their size!

The Bachmann NG7 stock arrived on Saturday so yesterday with some trepidation I ran a clearance test train over the Drowes River Bridge as this provides the access to the joint OO/NG7 fiddle yard. This was successful and at first glance the train appears to fit in with the surroundings. I have a feeling though that when the Irish OO is running through the adjacent 7mm scale quarry scene its not going to be so believeable.

The Study or Mancave , Railway Room or Rubbish Tip depending on who is expressing their opinion now has the continous run installed with a removable drop board across the entrance. The Mullaghmore area, on the right in the second photo, is to be re-developed for the proposed NG7 Quarry but Irish OO and the NG7 will be able to utilise each others sections and also the fiddle yard for running. The Drowes River bridge at Four Masters is somewhat hidden far right but there will be a further scenic extension on the approach to the fiddle yard in front of the window.
