  1. Photographer was probably Joe St.Leger. The cabin was a homemade GSWR 'style' effort built by volunteer Nicky Wakeford aka 'Bodger'. It was never used for anything other than accommodation.
  2. Talking of wooden cabins reminded me that the cabin at Tralee (Rock Street) was one such. It was dismantled for the GSRPS by AnCO/FAS during the mid 1980s and put into storage in Tralee loco shed - could still be there, levers and all?
  3. The elephant in the room here is Inchicore Railway Works - acres of space - close to the City Centre and with the former (listed) running sheds an obvious location. Sadly, with the useless politicians we have there's no chance. With the stroke of a pen Varadkar and Deenihan could put this thing in motion in the morning. You have my best wishes but I've no energy anymore for this kind of project. http://archiseek.com/2010/1846-irish-rail-works-inchicore-dublin/#.U538zZRdXiU
  4. Hill of Howth Tramway book still available. Two limited edition, large format postcards (mint condition) €5 including p+p to UK or Ireland. See below. and a rare (?) bird - "War on the Railways in Wexford" limited edition produced by IE to mark 150 years of the railway in Enniscorthy. Mint condition - €8 including p+p. Don't delay if you want any of them as they are going on Adverts.ie later today.

€75 !!!! You could have brought the real thing for that price. The foreman at CIE's Mullingar Scrapyard had a grounded one for an office right up until closure - wonder what happened to it?
  6. Yes - they are cast iron and unbroken - ready to fix onto a signal lever.
  7. Hi, Sorry for the delay. Here's the third one. There's a grubby mark on it which would probably clean off with some elbow grease but I've none in stock! Can bring to Dublin next week.
  8. Two cast iron signal lever plates looking for a new home. €20 collected from Enniscorthy or €20 collected from Dublin (opposite Connolly Station) - no offers please. Stop press: I've just discovered a third one and will throw it in for an additional €5 i.e. €25 in total.
  9. NET (Shelton Abbey and Marino Point); Irish Cement at Platin and Mungret... The fact is that due to a lack of natural resources i.e. iron ore and coal Ireland had very little heavy industry - period.
  10. CSE didn't hire the G-class, they purchased them. G613 at Tuam, G611, 615, 616, and 617 at Thurles. G611 was later 'lent' to CIE to shunt the wagon works at Limerick but this local arrangement caused ructions when news reached the the powers that be at Inchicore. The Rustons held sway at Carlow and Mallow CSE factories.

Just pulled up from my Guinness impaired memory - the Marconi railcar was built by Lancia....I think.
  12. This project will not fly. Another Boards thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=88567183
  13. That story's been doing the rounds for decades - Woodbrook was mentioned but I can't see where it would have gone. In other news the IRRS preserved the whistle!!

This pic appears in an early edition of the IRRS Journal or it could have been Wally McGrath's "Some Industrial Rlys" book but all the others were very interesting. When I was a railway enthusiast.....well the Clifden line was my first love.... nearly persuaded my Granny to buy Ballynahinch Station back in the late 1970s.

Thanks for the information and I'll pass it on to the party concerned.
  16. Will throw in these two badges FREE with the Hill of Howth book. Both are in mint condition. The IE one is perfect - my camera just highlighted finger marks!

Hi All, I was asked by a friend - yes, I still have one - to help identify the locomotive below. Sorry for the poor quality - photo of a poor photo. The only identification mark is 5 on the side of the loco. Any information gratefully received.
  18. Very sorry guys - I just sold it on Adverts.ie - needs must when the devil (Paddy Power) drives.
  19. Official GNR map dated 1876. A rare survivor from the early years of railways in Ireland. Canvas backed. 13.5 inches x 10 inches. Map shows the railways before the line extended north of Tuam, no Clifden line and the Parsonstown & Portumna Bridge line is there too! Some wear to one corner but will be unnoticeable once framed. Will be sent by registered mail. Price of €50 includes registered mail. Hurry if interested as it's going on Adverts.ie later.
  20. Sorry, it's gone since June, I should have marked it sold.
  21. Another addition to the list. The Hill of Howth Tramway. By Clifton Flewitt Published by Transport Research Associates, Dublin (1968). Paperback. 64 pages. Illustrated, folding map. Laminated cover beloved of TRA publications showing usual wear otherwise very good. A nice clean copy of this elusive work. Comes with a letter from the author to one of the photographic contributors - €20 including p+p on the island of Ireland.
  22. Lot 739: Railway sign start bid €20 - Cast iron railway sign "Cork and Bandon" Estimate: 40-60 The auctioneers blurb (above) leaves it up to the buyer!
  23. Spotted this 'rarity' in a recent Munster Antiques sale - being sold as a Cork & Bandon sign.
