  1. One of the first structures I built for this project was a disused tea room, but as the layout developed I realised the the room was a bit too large....... appropriate surgery was undertaken by removing a portion of the building's rear and thankfully the patient has emerged without any lasting damage. Bedding in and landscaping shall commence in due course.
  2. Spotted a nice pack of trees in my local Hobbycraft and lo and behold they are now on the layout! Another detail added too, a war grave commemorating the crash of a Vickers Wellington and the loss of her Canadian air crew.
  3. Looks like an amazing layout, would love to see more! Coaches are fantastic!!!
  4. So the Bangor show is coming up. I wonder might there be any announcements which would have relevance to this thread………
  5. Hopefully the DCC chip is of good quality and doesn’t get fried
  6. Great slice of humour there GM
  7. Resisting the temptation to milk this one
  8. Brookhall is much smaller but took the guts of three years, so I didn’t want that to happen on this project
  9. I have just had a look back at the start of this thread, and I thought I would re-post an early photo along with a comparison view from the same angle this evening! Thankfully, there has been some progress made during the intervening six-month period!
  10. More foliage being added to this part of the layout.
  11. I was thinking it gives me an excuse to buy a box of Quality Street then I will have lots of shades to choose from!!!
  12. Here’s my contribution to this very useful thread! Due to impatience, my current project progressed beyond the stage where it was still straightforward to add lighting to the buildings, so I started thinking of alternatives. I was looking for miniature lights which could be placed individually in rooms and I found a set of 10 tiny key rings on Amazon, for only £7.00: So I took off the metal key ring parts and using double sided tape, I fixed the torch parts to the underside of the roofs of my buildings: Yes, it’s not as straightforward (or as professional) as flicking a switch to turn all the lights on and off, but it’s considerably cheaper and does not involve complex wiring! In fact, it doesn’t involve any wiring
  13. Is a few kind members have been asking me about this new method of lighting so I’m going to post it under the ‘Cheap Modelling Materials’ thread! It’s actually a bit embarrassing how much of a cheat this is……..
  14. I have found a totally 'cop out' way to add lighting, I'll explain it in due course but here's how it looks at the first attempt, still a few light bleed issues to sort though.
  15. Magnificent Alan, yet again!
  16. Some more scenic work today - the bank between the bay platform line and the church has been looking quite bare so out came the scatter material and foliage and now it looks a bit different. The secret is to use a subtle variety of shades to make it look as realistic as possible. Now I have to go to work........
  17. As a layout develops, it’s interesting to note the new viewing angles which open up. Here are a few new vistas from in and around Clogherhead.
  18. Waiting to bring the holidaymakers to the beach!
  19. Yes, it’s definitely bringing me out of my shell.
  20. There is a different type of tank engine heading for Brookhall Mill Am preparing for a little World War II era cameo scene.
