  1. "IR: We like what you lads are at there in Merica, with them laser yokes. Sperry: It's Ultrasonic sir IR: Grand, ya, well thing is we have a spare 40 foot container in the yard. We were kinda hopin' you might tack weld your gear to it, and we'll look after the yellow paint side of things? Sperry: If sir requires a bespoke item, as opposed to an off the shelf item, we would be delighted to price, and charge accordingly. IR: Sounds a bell. I'll tell the boys to clear her out." Ha Ha... Sounds about right.... They dont do off the shelf around here! That said it does provide a bit of interest for modelling, but makes finding rtr models a nightmare!
  2. Hi Glenderg, nice bit of photoshop work on the Rotem rail car. Well done. I am a fan of the current livery for these (much better than the Mk4s), but do miss the old orange and black. It was in fairness a very distinctive livery. This compulsion to paint everything here silvery-grey and call it modern has gone a little over the top in my opinion. Transport should be in bright and distintive colours i.e. Yellow cabs in NY, Red Buses in London, Green and Yellow Trams in Melbourne etc... The orange livery with a bit of tweaking actually looks quiet contempory, It almost appears metallic with the black appearing almost gunmetal. Nice
  3. Agreed, it's some layout. How on earth he found the time/money to put it together is a mystery. The little hi-railer is pretty cool alright. Any idea what make it is? Here's a slightly bigger model that might be of interest... pictured in Ontrack's yard in Greymouth NZ. A Suzuki Jimny Hi rail. Suzuki SJ's have also been used on the ONTRACK/KIWIRAIL network in New Zealand for inpection/infrastructural works.
  4. t's disapointing news but inevitable. The Mk3 would easily be good enough for many years more service but are now surplus to requirments. Just like the 201's they are yet another under utilised asset, never realising it's full potential due to a lack of focus on IE's part, a fascination for going off buying bespoke toys, and the times we are currently living in. I do wonder why they have been kept in storage for so many years after withdrawl from service. I am only guessing that IE had something else in mind for the Mk3s (selling them off or whatever) and those plans never came to pass. Some would blame the introduction of railcars for their demise. The ease of swiching direction, cheaper running costs, etc... would probably made it happen eventually anyway. I actually quite like the 22Ks and find them far supirior to alot of the old coaching stock that had been running up until recent years. That said, it's the waste of it all and the lack of making the most of what IE have that gets me. You only have to look at Mayners video above to see what can be done with refurbished stock. 30 years old they may be but still working and providing a service. Nothing's gonna happen now so it's all academic.... But I do hope there will be a few kept for preservation, they are still part of Irelands transport heritage. OK rant over Tom
  5. Quality work Glenderg:tumbsup: Words don't do it justice. Looking forward to more photos when ya have them. Tom.
  6. Ah so it is... hard to tell cos those avatar pics are so small. Nice spot for a BBQ alright. It was probably the best weather we had all of last year too if I recall. Was down in Dunmore East for it myself, looking across at Hook Head. I think the forum needs an Infrastructure thread, what do you reckon? Locos, freight, coaching stock, stations etc... get a good look in. But somewhere for pics of Viaducts, over bridges and the like would be a good idea. More viaducts in layouts would be cool too (something i'd like in my own when it's built!!!). Will get the finger out and see what I have on the computer:cool: Tom
  7. Hi guys. I have recently made a few decisions regarding the direction I want to take with my layout. Hope to do more freight so some passenger stock has to go. I have a couple of items on offer both in good order and ready for a new home. 1 No. Lima Class 201 'River Boyne' numbered 207, in original Enterprise livery. Sold, waiting for payment. Sold 1 No. Murphy Models Mk2 EGV 'no. 5602' in IE livery with black roof. Never been run. Only out of the box for photos. 40 Euro o.n.o Cheers Tom.
  8. Yeah I was surprised to see the foundry site levelled. It wasn't a bad place to work in either, twas the people that made it. I was lucky to be there when it was still a working foundry. It was all very interesting indeed... seeing moulten metal being formed in sand casts, pattern makers creating moulds etc... like something from another age! Ah yes the red Iron bridge... had forgotten the name. Been a few years since I was living in the city. Didn't know there was another station on this side of the river, but I guess it makes sense (Railway square). Long since lost to history. Another thing.... I'm sure I have some photos of Barrow Bridge around here too. Will stick em up when I find them Tom.
  9. Thanks snapper, its all a help. I better start decalling so... Cheers
  10. Mmmmm Shiny! But for how long? Not too often you see these so fresh looking. And I have to say it looks well with the rake of Autoballasters in tow. In regards to renumbering. Is there a decal sheet available to renumber and renameplate the 201's? Anybody here have a crack at it? Rich I'd be very interested to know how ya get on with that:tumbsup:
  11. Hi Mayner, I can't take the credit for that beauty, but it does look great doesnt it Strange thing is, I used to work across the river in the Iron foundry back in the early 2000s. Had a great vantage point to take in the comings and goings at Plunkett station. But alas it was long before the Railway modelling bug took hold! I do remember the morning service from Kilkenny 'backing' in to Plunkett station. The auld fellas at Stanley used joke about this (mostly Kilkenny men!), the train would drive to Killkenny but it would back into Waterford they would say! Not sure if it was a shunting move, or the train was operating a push pull setup. Then again Killkenny is a terminus/ not a through station... maybe it was actually backing? If you're ever back in the area, its worth checking out the 'old' railway bridge furthur up river. It's an ancient structure and quiet a contrast to the new suspension roadbridge alongside. Cheers Tom
  12. Hi Glenderg, ask and ye shall recieve. I picked up a few nice shots that evening, 18th of March this year. The light was fading but there was a whole heap of interesting stuff sitting in the railway yard across the other side of the river so couldnt resist:-) The shot looks up river towards the new bridge, taken from Bilberry. The boatyard in the left hand side used to have plenty more bigger and rustier vessels in it. The ferry is kinda cool, not sure if it's got anything to do with the Ferry company operating futher down stream on the Suir. The original photo is about 4Mb in size! let me know how you get on with this one (about 500 kb) and if it doesnt work out I can email you on the full size. My tinternet is kinda slow for uploading big photos Im afraid. Cheers Tom
  13. Yeah I got caught on the roof detail too. Had a look at Antonys/Enniscorthymans workbench thread to get the details I was looking for in the end. It's the one time I could'nt find what I was looking for on Google Even though we are spoiled for choice with photo resources such as... Eirtrains, The Wanderer etc... That said, the EGV conversion kit was very enjoyable and turned out pretty well in the end... Credit to Westy:tumbsup: Great Photos Rich... so nice to see Mk3s in good order in their prime. Shiny! On a side issue concerning Mk3s, I picked up the Mk3 rake transfer pack and in the process of building up a rake of Mk3s to go along with the EGV. Does anybody know which numbers match up to which individual piece of stock? Is there a list somewhere which says what running number corresponds to an EGV, Restaurant car, 1 class coaches, and standard coaches? There's a whole heap of transfers on that sheet so I want to try and get them right! Any help with this would be most appreciated....Cheers Tom
  14. Excellent Photos, talk about a mixed bag of stock and Locos! Thanks for posting BabyGM. The Mk3 EGVs are looking very smart in their new livery. Does anyone know if they are actually going into service soon?
  15. Hi all, here's some photos I took a few months back, in and around Waterford train station. I cant recall seeing such a selection of locos and stock in Waterford all at once... 079, a pair of 201s, Timber flats, container flats, Autoballasters and of course the retired Mk3 coaches. Enjoy:)
