    WARLEY OFF

    This won't surprise anyone?

Warley 2020 (like the Olympics and Euros) was running a year late, but is now going to be two years late.

I've just received an e-mail to say Warley in November has been cancelled.

Now, do I leave my deposit in place until 2022?

I'd take your deposit for now Leslie, if you haven't already done so

Cannot see the photo. Does the link work?

Its on the IRRS Flickr site (for members, so should work for members)

It looks very similar in design to the CIE version, maybe smaller jaws

That’s an NCC Mogul. The NCC were the high priests of tablet exchange at speed, 60 mph was regular practice, as the main line north of Ballymena was single track.

I guess that the NCC was part of MIdland/LMS so would have been early to adopt the practice, any idea when? Wonder if there are any photos of the NCC snatchers anywhere?

  3. I didn't realize how prevalent the prototype dark green livery was and would like acquire Green A46 (new, unused or tested only).

I would  be willing to exchange another IRM class A for it (let me know your preference)

Would prefer exchange by Parcel Motel in Ireland or USPS in US for simplicity for both parties if any takers.

    PM me if interested. Thanks

Fascinating, specially the bit about the snatcher.

They must have been made redundant a log time ago.

My 088 in as-delivered-wrong-orange has them, as does ST livery 126, and the black 141's, but nothing newer.

I think they were used until maybe the late 60s even though they could be seen on locos in super train livery until they were eventually removed at some point. Very few B Sulzers had them, I've only seen evidence of one on the site maybe B107 iirc.

It's important to remember that it was a staff EXCHANGE not just the pickup. If you look at the snatcher on the cab you'll see the token to be dropped from the last section hanging from the back of the snatcher. The jaws of the platform exchanger are set lower than the jaws on the locomotive and snatches the token from the cab side while the cab side jaws simultaneously pick up the staff for the section to be entered. You'd not want to be anywhere near the exchanger due to risk of dismemberment at best. The platform exchanger has two set of jaws one for each direction/wrong line running.

  5. Does anyone know know of a book listing the coaching stock that existed in CIE when formed c. 1945 or nationalized c. 1950?

Although an IRRS member, I don't live in Dublin. I have Pender and Richards book (1967) which lists most of the stock built in the early 1950s building program.

    Thanks for any help

  6. I was pretty confident that a grocer or ex-railwayman would oblige with a definitive answer on the 121 marker light when 4 are present. Although delivered with  two paired clusters, many of the 21s ultimately ended up with only three, one red and a pair of whites appropriate to the direction. The 2+1 arrangement may have occurred to keep the locos serviceable but if this was sufficient did they ever run with a three wholes (a pair of adjacent whites on the drivers side). It seems like the marker lights were used very little especially during daylight running and it is difficult to be certain how many are in fact light in phots as the locos are often not shot head on (at least when in motion, lol) and ti is difficult to appreciate more than 2 lit any any one time. When the shot is backlit, it is easier to appreciate what bulbs were actually lit but I'm going to say that 2+1 was the functional arrangement and the arrangement with three lit in the MM model is probably not prototypical (if anyone knows different, please feel free to contribute). there doesn't; seem to have been a second red glass, one red light only on the rear left.

  7. While everything Irish is welcome, I personally hope that's not the next offering. We won't have any say on the matter, that's long decided. I'd be far more interested in what it's shunting, with those then yes, I'd be all for an E class then.

IRM seem disinclined to  produce what cannot be physically measured. The Chaldron wagon by Accurascale is probably the oldest item they have produced, some extant examples in preservation just like a couple of E class at DCDR so its definitely a potential.

We're pretty much into November so maybe an IRM announcement soon, there were a couple promised as I recall. Of course with all the production and logistics issues, the announcement may lag if IRM cannot deliver within the preferred time frame but we will see (there were some extra boxes as I recall)

A lot of European electricity is generated using natural gas instead of coal and that is in short supply. Pray for a mild winter or there will be a shortage by Feb 2022. That said there is some regulation between supply and cost. During an unexpected winter storm in Texas in early 2021, the Texas grid went down due to unprecedented demand, (and lack of winterization, general maintenance, an expected peak in summer, and lack of regulation et al.) . The temperature plummeted and prices instantly soared and those with power on a variable rate were paying $9/kW for several days. That not a typo, you'll need a calculator for the bill ($3-5k)

So much for Green Environmental concerns, All to keep the Rich shareholders in the green. ( I must admit though I hate the OHLE)

Agree about the OHLE and I used to think the same of wind turbines but they have become a necessary ugliness on the landscape

As I was directly involved with this episode-there was no anti social behaviour on this occasion,

I will not go into any more details on a public forum.

    Thank you.

Incorrectly reported by the Western People then I guess. Just not sure why a train needs to be delayed for 2 hours and the Gardai called. Another delay of 50 minutes during the Portarlington incident. Seems to me that his should be dealt with off the train, simply not acceptable to delay scores of other passengers who have things to do.

On an almost daily/bi-daily basis I (eventually) pass an accident on the freeway where the G0b$h!t3 who could not wait three seconds to allow some other road user change lanes now has hours to spend sorting out the carnage that ensues, along with the hundreds of other road users who are inconvenienced by this completely unnecessary antisocial attitude to everyone else going about their business.

And the A’s were announced on October 29th 2018 you just couldn’t make it up

A couple of extra days or weeks is not as important to me as having the things very well packed. There is simply no point in receiving them damaged. Where would the replacement come from? Received my first  delivery with minor damage to 054 but then got A1 a couple of days ago in pristine condition with the box still shrink wrapped!✌️

Just be grateful it wasn't announced on February 29th or you'd all be waiting until 2024😄
