I’m not sure that any of those are in photographic gray. The silver coronation livery certainly is a running delivery. I’m not sure about the others. Photographic gray was intended for black and white photographic purposes where the overall scheme was gray, but particular items such as the wheels or particular items to be highlighted were picked out in white

I think it is time to release the first draft into the community.
CIE_Carriage_Stock_Register_Draft1_19-09-2025.xlsx 215.89 kB · 24 downloads
I hope this is of use. Any comments, corrections or additional information would be most welcome.
Areas already identified for improvement, but awaiting more time and/or data, are as follows:
- Hyperlinks to connect the entries where vehicles have been rebuilt/renumbered
- More links or references to published photos of each carriage
- More information on inherited GNR carriages (weight, body, underframe, bogies and withdrawal dates)
- Review of consistency where vehicles have been reclassified without being renumbered
- More detail on the list of references
Paul
With the addition of some photos and editorial this has a little reference book written all over it, like the Doyle & Hirsch reference books, the earliest of which was in 1979 with limited reference only to stock existing before that time.

Wondering if one could do a Frankenstein between the Bachmann N and Rapido K?
The Bachmann N is on the RMW Mazak Rot / Zinc Pest list…
Mine seem to be good and they’re getting close to 2 decades I think. Repainting a newer one would have to be professionally done just to get the 6’ driving wheels and the are a few other minor differences which would persists in this if it’s true to British N class. Nonetheless possibly still an option for those who don’t have the Bachmann ones. Maybe someone will commission a few of these again in CIE/MGW or better again some niche 12 wheelers so I can make a boat train

I have the Bachmann originals, wonder how much better these would be if at all?

@WarbonnetIt would be helpful if you could prioritize shipping the Class 89s to the US.
I have not received a confirmation that mine have been shipped at all as yet?
Thanks,
K

Nice looking model! I do like that livery. Unfortunately no longer into British outline for a couple of decades now, and funds have to be apportioned somewhere, so Irish it is for now. Looks to be decent pricing seeing as everything has really hit the eBay prices everyone used to complain about.

Can anyone confirm when the red nameplates were fitted to the 800s (other than Maedh) and earlier or later then the blue plates with FS?
Would the time line for liveries have been 800 GS, 802 light green, CIE DRK GREEN (FS), CIE DRK Green, Preserved ... and where for the red plates and which years?
I'm surprised that IRM doesn't include this information on the website give the amount of research it must have done on the models and liveries, and front views like the Hunslets since the differences were mainly in the smoke box area @BosKonay
I'm limiting to 4 only of the models due to events in the US and appreciate any insights into liveries/dates. TIA

Though Ireland would have applied to become the 51st State or at least a US Overseas Territory by now avoid all this fuss with major US companies using Ireland and a tax haven and off-shoring "American jobs" to Ireland. Afterall Mary Harney once said the Irish people felt closer to Boston than Hamburg (or was it Berlin) as a people and in terms of doing business. In a way Donald reminds me of Charlie Haughy in terms of personality.
Anyway wasn't his mother Mary Anne MacLeod born in a Scots-Gaelic speaking household in the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides from a Clann/family displaced by the Highland Clearances.
No doubt there is some Irish Ancestory on the mothers side as the Gaels brought the Gaelic language, customs and Christianity to the Highlands during the early middle ages.
The mother’s side is not the problem

ON the flip side of the coin, it seems I can no longer purchase models using the US dollar which seems to have disappeared from the drop down list of currencies on the website. However those of you in UAE and Liechtenstein are good to go.....
Hopefully this was not in the anticipated raft of improvements on the website? @BosKonay

So unfortunately not, Stephen. IRM is currently charging these rates to ROW. Those of you in ROW may not notice if you only order one or two locos but you certainly will for a larger order!
I have been looking an old waybill from one of my orders but they've been discarded. What would be the country of origin be for models due for delivery to US in 2025 (Ireland or China)? @BosKonay

Inspired by a comment on the Bulleid wagons thread about alternative uses for the triangulated underframe, I thought I'd collate a bit of information on the CIE Palvan here.
This is a topic that has been considered before in various threads so firstly I should acknowledge and link them:
https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/3048-cie-palvan/
https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/9588-cie-palvan-dimensions/
https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/10509-palvans-in-ireland/
https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/8002-triangular-underframe/
There have also been some very nice models made by various forum members which appear on their own threads. I won't link all of them but feel free to add your own links/photos in this thread. In most cases these models are based on kits for the British Railways Palvan, which has some similarities and some differences from the CIE version.
One of the threads above was about dimensions, which didn't seem to reach a definite conclusion. Here is a drawing of the BR Palvan which the kits represent, from the Barrowmore MRG website: http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BRFreight1Issue.pdf
Known dimensions for the CIE Palvan are wheelbase 10'0" and length over headstocks 16'11", quoted in 'Irish Railways Today' (Pender & Richards; 1967). So the wheelbase is the same as the BR version, but the CIE body is 7" shorter.
I haven't been able to find any equivalent diagrams/drawings for CIE wagons although I expect they exist somewhere. The nearest I could find was an H van, which does at least have the same basic triangulated chassis as the CIE Palvan:
Comparing widths and heights is a bit more difficult without a drawing of the Palvan.
However, looking at the H van underframe it's clear that the headstock width is similar to the BR Palvan (7'10" vs 7'9") but the buffer spacing is 6'3" compared to BR's 5'7.5".
The H van is 11'5" overall height compared to 11'7.75" on the BR Palvan (quite similar). However, in photos the CIE Palvan seems to be quite a lot taller than the H van. More on this in the subsequent posts when I get onto photos.
More to follow in the next post...
Great information . The dimensions you mention amount to no more 1-2mm in 4mm scale, so url;ees we see an rt the 2ft rule would certainly apply to BR based modifications
On 5/11/2024 at 11:22 AM, Mol_PMB said:In one of the previous threads, there were some useful CIE Palvan dimensions quoted here:
These seem consistent with the chassis length over headstocks of 16'11", and width over headstocks of 7'10". Compared to the BR version, the interior dimensions are 3" shorter and 3" wider, again consistent with the slightly different proportions of the CIE van. The height of the top of the frame is the same on the CIE and BR Palvans.
The door width of 8'6" is very similar to the BR Palvan's 8'5". The CIE door opening height of 6'0.5" is rather less than the BR Palvan 6'5.5", but this difference may be accounted for by the CIE Palvan's sliding door runner taking up space at the top of the door (the BR vans had hinged doors).
There is still no information on the over-all height.
This photo from Brian Flannigan on Flickr shows the height difference between a CIE Palvan and H van. It's quite striking, as some modellers have noted:
The difference can also be seen (twice) in this photo by Jonathan Allen on Flickr:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/52883141960
I reckon the height difference comprises at least 3" in eaves height difference and at least another 3" from the grater arc of the roof. It could be more.
Palvan's were an interesting little wagon, a firm favorite of mine

Been waiting on a reply from Andrew regarding this and in the interim the cost has increased by $43 per loco or $335 added to my order. Something's broken alright. I have decided to cancel the potential purchase. Not impressed @Ironroad

I saw the title and thought Antonov what? I get it now. The cargo involved was the Ukrainian Antonov-124 so I see the name is a portmanteau of that and the GM 201 class locomotive

Love the Genesis coaches but they are noticeably smaller compared to more specific Irish stock, as can be seen in @Jarl’s bottom photo above. Mixing them with other vehicles might not look right……
They will probably look good relative to the track

It should be getting power directly from the track. Try another coach to troubleshoot, whether it’s the pickup or the lighting kit.

where on earth are you getting them shipped to?
I'm in NZ and never had a shipping cost over 1/3 of that from IRM...
It doesn't usually even get calculated until ready to ship.
Shipping to US, metro area, not the backwoods or anything...., looks like the cost just keeps offing rising the more I order (but more locally you get free shipping for ordering more).
Same will happen with ICRs I suspect, so since that not my era its hard to expect us to support that IRM project at these rates over here
-
Been considering which of these I wanted to get for the last several days and after finalized my list, I realized that shipping would be a whopping $157!! I checked my account and realized that I paid with $25 to ship 4 A class a couple of years ago, a 300% shipping increase for ROW. Who else has been hit with this increase in ROW and how much has it changed for you guys?

I had planned to get an ICR or two also but that just went on hold

Yes, interesting because as we all know, a silver livery for running purposes would only work for a well maintained top link service. A long time since I did British modeling so I might’ve forgotten the details.
