Quick question about the original run....I am doing some "stocktaking" now that a re-run may be on the horizon. I bought a bunch of duplicate pack G's to renumber but will probably just sell those on now, just keeping one pack and buying new numbers instead. Maybe I missed it as I returned to the hobby after these had been released but my pack G's don't contain exactly what's printed on the box. All 5 packs that I have contain the following wagons:

    25064

    25127

    25136

According to the packaging and the website they should contain:

    25064

    25136

    25178

It looks like in my packs the 25178's are always missing, replaced with a 25127. 4 of the 5 packs I have only just opened now to check. Was this the case for every pack G made or just some? I don't really care what running numbers are in the box but if I am selling them I would like to know if they were all like that, so I can mention it in the ad. I will obviously list the actual running numbers and mention the fact these deviate from the packaging but if they are all like that it's less of an issue when selling.

You'll get the most interest from @WRENNEIRE, if you're selling these oddities

The problem will come, once all the current Irish Railway locos, carriage and good stock have been made available, where do you go to? sure popular modelling has alway followed what is currently out there on the mainline as it reminds us of what is out there to be seen.

Purley as a suggestion you understand, but you could then go back and visit all the heritage sites, Cultra, Whitehead and Downpatrick to start with, to see what they have.

However going back to the days of steam, I am at more of a disadvantage that most of you guys are In Ireland since I live over the waters in Kent, England.

That's an interesting point, Colin. At the rate IRM are going (God Bless Them) , they will have covered all the 'modern' stock within another 5 years.

Regretably, in that decade we will no doubt have lost another prototype or two and a lot more period modelling interest. At the risk of repeating what I have said before some models might help preserve the remaining interest in the earlier Irish scene as the IRM models have demonstrated over the last 5 years. So I am hoping to see these sooner than later

Whatever is going to be released, it'll give me a chance to get the accounts back into the black!
I'd have no interest in steam at all, as for me, my earliest memories of the railway is from around 1980 Connolly station, and plenty of GMs and Metrovicks in action! On a Sunday, my uncle would take me for a trip out to Howth, Bray, or Dun Laoghaire - I can remember him taking me on the DART on its first day of operation too

This is what concerns me most regarding future modelling of Irish railways. While there seems to be something of a following for the  pre-grouping era in GB, there seems to be fewer who do and will remember or have any nostalgic association with early CIE, let alone the GSR, or GSWR ....

Not withstanding what IRM have achieved in 5 years which is a good business model and an innovative and quality series of products, there has really not been any readily available early period traction, track or stock that might revive interest in that era

In a "Decade of Steam" on CIE in the 1950s Drew Donaldson, Jack O'Neill and Bill McDonnell RPSI 1974 the authors wrote about Cork (Shed) painting a number of steam locos during the late 50s/early 60s in Grey with black smokeboxes including a no of J15s and an ex MGWR Standard Goods. I have mislaid the page with the numbers many moons ago.

Never fear, John. Drew Donaldson writes that from his personal recollection Cork Shed turned out B4 464, J18 593 and J15 193 with black smoke boxes as evidenced from leslie's IRRS photo above.

Like many electronic components decoders and circuit boards have a finite life, during the 2000s it was estimated that a high proportion of decoders would fail within 10 years

I wonder how the newer components like Loksound V5 will fare?

The newer IRM offerings have integrated sound that cannot be retrofitted according to Fran or at least the components will not be available to fit to the models e.g. the ICRs

I presume we will be looking to people like legomanbiffo for a physically compatible LokSound V8.5 if indeed that vendor is still on the go at that time?

Wish they'd do the lined green livery of RPSI 184 or even the green livery of 186. They also need to be DCC ready and sound ready, lights etc for the price. Love mine but they lack that special extra something that IRM would no doubtably deliver.

Personally, I am gutted that they will not be producing it in the livery of the Great Train Robbery

(y'know, an Irish model masquerading as an British rather than the traditional order)

One thing he said though that I should mention is that the locos are not suitable for very long running
His gearbox has mostly metal parts and needs to be rested between runnings

I wonder if the chips were not all that comfortable in the metal fryer?

Something I heard from my sources in East cork is that the laying of the Youghal greenway has caused a TB nightmare due to badgers being displaced.

The evidence for badger populations being responsible for the bTB persistence and periodic outbreaks in cattle has been regarded as circumstantial at best for many decades. Farming practices, circumvention of control measures and intra-herd spread are more likely. Badgers are a convenient culprit, like foxes that decimated domestic fowl populations, sea eagles that depleted fishing stocks and golden eagles that carried away flocks of sheep and small children. Luckily most  shot to extinction by the valiant Irish farmer 😕

.....exI ept the US cousin has a tractive effort almost three times that of the 071! Regularly see quad- and quintuple-headed UPs hauling a mile of freight cars, literally, pretty impressive even though ihave to wait several minutes for it to pass over the grade crossings.

Harder to find but my personal favorite livery would be the Norfolk Southern livery which is still see here with some frequency

    Old man rant warning:

I think the beatles, and that grumpy oul van morrison, are amongst the most overrated performers that these islands have produced. Only slightly more onboxious are the gallaghers. Can't stand any of them.

Rant over; I'll show myself out.

You're referring to the British duo and not Rory one presumes? Blood being thicker than PVA and all that

All these resin kits and resin RTR models filled a vacuum very nicely for their time. The demand too small and specialised niche era for the main IMP manufacturers. Hopefully will have some brass versions later in the year

TBH I'm surprised there isn't sufficient market for an rtr model of the 4w LVs, HLVs with its several variants and TPO all running on the same chassis in silver, green and BnT liveries, possibly even the 6w HV. The didn't run in rakes but one or several of each were in so many trains.

Granted they are mostly built pre-70s 😏
