  1. I stayed there in 1976 when the station was an An óige Youth Hostel. As schoolboys we cycled from Dublin to Kerry and back over two weeks using hostels each night. Many of the hostels have long been closed including Loo Bridge.
  2. A serious case of size matters and modelling at 12 inches to the foot!
  3. Further to the above, Feldorf a Continental layout in N gauge is to be presented by South Dublin MRC and Curracloe a OO gauge Irish layout is to be shown by the Model Railway Society of Ireland. An additional trader has promised to join us: GModelscene with Gabor Evenich. Aerial view over Shunters Yard station
  4. You can put the better figures closer to the viewer with cheaper/less detailed ones towards the background. Sometimes worth picking up a varied selection e.g. for fun scenarios: dog chasing cat, people chatting in groups, nuns/religious figures, family groups, people sitting etc
  5. Great shots. I like the oil lamps on 107 and the crew in the PW machine!
  6. Looking forward to seeing these at the Wexford Show at Easter!

  8. Thanks Guys, I will be showing my new N-gauge Cynwyd (prototype on the Llangollen line) and Shunters Yard (compact OO GWR) at the Wexford Easter Exhibition.
  9. Llangollen in N is scheduled to appear at the Bala Model Railway Exhibition on May 27th/28th 2017. I am delighted to have the opportunity to show the layout at the site of the original Ruabon to Barmouth line and not many miles from the restored sections from Llangollen/Corwen and Llanuwchllyn/Bala Lake.
  10. Just kidding, Glenderg. I model Irish and UK outline so I have to watch what I call them where!
  11. Signal Cabin surely?
  12. As part of the Wexford Model Railway Club's upcoming Easter Exhibition, we are planning a display of equivalent models in N, OO and O gauge. We had a trial at the club recently where members brought in stock and these were placed side by side for comparison.
  13. The annual Easter exhibition will be held at St Joseph's Community Centre, Bishopswater, Wexford on Sunday 16th and Bank Holiday Monday 17th April 2017. A wide range of model railways in all gauges are being invited along with other hobby exhibitors. Put it in your diary! More details closer to the event.
  14. "Liquid lead" is a pourable granular product which can be set with PVA glue in any space/crevice in a model and adds decent weight. Might work here?
  15. Slightly off-topic but I noticed a number of CDs on sale as ambient sounds for a lay-out: http://www.dccsupplies.com/cl-99/fantasonics-layout-sounds.htm
  16. I put some finishing touches to Cynwyd over the Christmas. Operational testing is well underway with Peco uncoupling system yet to be tested.
  17. For Cynwyd/Llangollen in N gauge and Shunters Yard in OO gauge, I have used simple push-pull arrangements which are operable from the from and/or back of the layout. The guide tubes are small diameter rawl plug lengths with brass wire to actuate the points. The screw linkages have an L-shaped wire which fits through the base board and through the point rocker bar.
  18. Cynwyd has been given its complement of trees handcrafted using sea foam and a variety of scatter materials attached with PVA.
  19. The critical issue is how many wagons will fit in each siding/head-shunt to allow a small engine to shuffle wagons between each line. Turn-outs end to end quickly add up to a long line restricting the number of wagons able to clear eachpoint. I fitted OO Shunters Yard into 1.2m by 0.23m using a three-way point to save much space. Similarly, a double-slip point would save space but allow more lines for shunting. (http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/5284-Shunters-Yard-Compact-Shelf-top-Exhibition-Layout-OO-gauge-GWR-outline-DCC-controlled/page3) Good idea to sketch out your plan on a piece of wallpaper backing paper using Peco templates or points.
  20. Nice layout. The single line sections are typically Irish - resisting the temptation to double-up or add numerous additional tracks is not easy - so good to see just one line running through the scenery.
  21. Ho Ho Ho! Just completed a 1000 piece jig-saw. Hope you all had a lovely day.
  22. Welcome ModelrailwaymanOO from IrishrailwaymanOONO... Have you chosen a model railway scale/era/theme for your endeavours yet?
  23. Is that the Garda checking up on the goings-on at the Auld House pub? Looks great including OO snow! Happy Christmas all.
