  2. Thanks Ernie, brilliant as usual. The brick columns supporting the water tower at Rcoksavage are still there.
  3. Hard to miss these prices, so I placed an order for some bits and pieces this morning. Dreading the credit card bill, reckon the envelope will be on fire when it's delivered. I need to get my story straight for the reasons/excuses.
  4. Funny story, I was walking down by the Atlantic Pond in Cork a few years ago, there was a really heavy shower and I had to shelter under a tree - with Micheal, who was walking his dog. Couple of Traveller children passed us on a sulky, going hell for leather. Micheal just threw his eyes up to heaven and did a big sigh! He headed off into the rain with the poor dog.
  5. I've just bought a rake of five RailTrack autoballasters from BS1985, newly of this parish. I know Robert has some excellent advice on how to respray them into yellow and change from the flat-top to the curved. Anyone got any other advice on these? Do I have to strip the paint before respraying? Thanks.
  6. Saw that, 20 bids already, so you're probably talking at least £250. Crazy money. Would be worth a re-issue, but I presume Bachmann own the rights, is that correct?
  7. What amazes me are the women wandering around the turntable at Cork!
  8. thanks for that.
  9. Just a quick question. Did the original 201's ever haul the mk3's? Even for shunting? Can't imagine they overlapped too much.
  10. Were they sitting on each others laps? How could a narrow gauge railway have such a high capacity coach?
  11. He loved the attention. Everyone was really nice to him. The model railway community are the best bunch of people you can get.
  12. Had a great few hours at the swap. Full of enthusiastic people and managed to pick myself up a few NIR resprayed LIMA models. Some great bargains there. Our Guide Dog pup got a lot of attention, which he loved!
  13. Morning all, is this event still OK for Sunday? Going to make the trip myself.
  14. Interesting story. My Dad worked in Irish Pioneer Works in Cork, galvanising steel. They won the contract to galvanise the pylons for the original Dart, as they had a longest molten zinc bath in Ireland. But the pylons were so long, they had to double dip them. He's still alive and very proud of the fact that the vast majority of the DART pylons still in use were dipped by him in the late 70's.
  15. The six wheelers look like a right beast!
  16. Had the same problem with Dapol. Got stung for lots of VAT and import duties. Should have gone to German sites.
  17. Great choice of loco. Couldn't decide so ordered all three!
  18. To be honest lads, we're all very proud of what you have achieved, both in Ireland and the UK. I for one, have told people how you developed Irish models for a non-existent Irish model market! And good excuse to convince herself that I need more IRM models - 'sure the lads need my support!'
  19. That's so good to hear. My parents took me to Youghal in the early 70's, when I was about 5. Vague recollection of the train. But at least I can still say I got the train to Youghal!
  20. So if I put my hand out at the 'halt' the train will stop? When I took the Kyle of Lochalsh line in Scotland, that was the case!
  21. Such a shame. There are many students commuting by bus every day from Castlemartyr, Killeagh and Youghal. The greenway isn't much use to them. The traffic volumes and delays at the Dunkettle interchange haven't improved either. If that vote had been a couple of years later, it would never had been for a greenway.
  22. In 2019, Cork County councillors voted unanimously to convert the line to a greenway.
  23. Still can't believe that people voted for a greenway from Youghal! What a missed opportunity.
  24. Trains, Boats and Planes, Princes Street, Cork. Amazing shop in the 1970's. Had full model railway layout upstairs. So good, that the Frank and Walters named an album after it! I used to love going their on a Sat. Couldn't afford anything but at least I could look.
