  1. All sorts of terms here - http://www.railway-technical.com/LAAR-Mk24.pdf - from a UK perspective, but it covers the carriage abbreviations, which could be handy.
  2. Indeed, DFDS is a shipping company, I was mislead by DFD's - whoops... RPA - Rail Procurement Agency. MRSI - Model railway Society of Ireland. IRRS - Irish Railway Record Society.
  3. MPD - motive power depot. MPV - multi-purpose vehicle. UTA - Ulster Transport Authority. NIR - Northern Ireland Railways. ..I think.. Not sure about DFD - Dublin Fire Department...?
  4. Pop the two plastic gears off, by lifting the springs and run the motor whilst holding a meths-soaked brush against the shaft. Soak the pinion in meths, as well, at the same time - dry - then re-assemble with Loctite or superglue..
  5. During the worst of the 1995 fiasco, Yorkshire Water workers were refusing to drive marked vehicles or even to wear identifying uniforms.... http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/remember-1995-1-2101006
  6. I seem to have missed out a picture - this one was for sale - based on Edenderry, I think.... http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,663706,733032,7,9
  7. I suspect that your camera actually was focussed - it's just your eyesight that's gone...
  8. And the last few.. I don't think that anybody has ever closed those bottom gates and filled the lock up....
  9. Right, finally sorted out a few pics from a couple of weeks ago... Dave, Heirflick and Murrayec. Eoin's development stages - possibly to emerge in 1/76th, also.. Last minute adjustments.... The lovely, though slightly risqué, quarry layout - if you've ever wondered where track rubbers come from, or where they go when they're worn out....
  10. Don't forget, this is on Sunday - I intend to attend...
  11. Avoid pressing on the cab side-windows, as they can be pushed out - well, in, really.
  12. Some really odd things have been happening lately - pineapples, grannies, etc - and largely in Limerick......
  13. Our Wanderer, retweeted by Irish Rail - ..and the full gallery - http://www.thewandererphotos.com/Officialevents/2014/Grandmother-Royal-Deluxe/i-JNRFkX4 ..
  14. Anybody fancy modelling this? "Granny is now in Limerick & she's staying the w/end. Take the train to see her."
  15. They're all manufacturers/suppliers of do-it-yourself track-making components, amongst other product lines. http://www.marcway.net/point.php http://www.marcway.net/smp.php http://www.finescale.org.uk/
  16. I would like to see them get English people to speak to each other on a train - likely to get arrested if you were to try that here....
  17. A bit late, but I've only just become aware of this - http://www.limerickchamber.ie/networking-evening/ - any extra uses for the railways have to be welcomed.
  18. Many of the "old boys" wouldn't use these modern track rubbers, because of the debris, and would only ever clean their track with a simple block of wood. Get it properly clean once, and then keep it clean with a gentle solvent pad, little and often - that seems to be good advice. Just running trains regularly helps, too - and gives you an excuse to play with it.......
  19. Meths is a great solvent - kind, yet effective. It's widely available - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Barrettine-Methylated-Spirit-500ml/dp/B002ATI4VG - the reviews in the Amazon offer, at the bottom of the page are some of the best on the internet. Obviously, I do not recommend that you drink it.....
  20. That's the one - I knew it had an 'a' in it....
  21. Somebody did build a really nice one a while back - possibly on the old site - can anybody remember who it was? I wonder if it was Geoergeconna...?
