A couple of years ago I accidentally came into possession of most of one MTK kit that I didn't even know existed, as I'd never seen it in any of the catalogues available when Colin Massingham was active. It claims to be for the WD 2-8-0 and is predominantly etched brass. The instructions refer to both the 2-8-0 and 2-10-0 variants and bears the name "Elcrappo", which Colin notoriously gave to his range of 7mm scale kits - this WD is however supposed to be 4mm scale, so the artwork may have been "shot down". I have no intention of trying to build it as I already have a Dave Bradwell WD, which is at the opposite end of the extreme when it comes to quality! I might use bits of it in to make a 2-10-0 as I've not seen an etched one built. 1 Quote

Patrick Davey Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Very nice - I am always impressed that you can see the potential in something Darius when it would be very easy to write it off, great work every time! 1 Quote

Thanks Patrick. I get the most satisfaction out of rescuing and restoring a model that would otherwise have been discarded. Light weathering to finish. MTK LMS coach repurposed as a UTA (ex NCC) coach. White metal coach ends cleaned up and glued in place. Plasticard strips used to reinforce the joints.. “Standard” chassis made from plasticard sheet and Plastruct angle sections. I used the MTK trusses but replaced the MTK bogies with Bachman LMS bogies. Roof detailing next. Cheers Darius Edited January 16 by Darius43 4 Quote

I'm always in awe of his rate of progress, and how he turns such unpromising components into a great looking model. I almost wish I hadn't binned my MTK Irish coaches some years ago; I could have a go at rebuilding them to a better standard. But sadly life changes left them in a landfill somewhere. 1 Quote
