NIR Class 450 DMU

Received today - CMAC Models OO gauge 3D printed bodies, undergibbons and bogies for the NIR Class 450 DMU.

I have applied a coat of grey primer to make the details more visible and cut down the bogie mounting bosses as the bodies sat too high on the bogies as supplied.

Great quality print that! Did you have to do any/much sanding down to remove 3d printing 'lines'?

I haven’t done any cleaning up yet - what you see is as supplied.  There are some blemishes that need to be sanded down or filled and there are moulding lines on the roof to cab junction that need to be lightly sanded.  Fortunately the CMAC resin is not too hard and is easily sanded smooth.

It's amazing what a coat of primer can do. When I looked at the resin bodies, as advertised, I was a bit sceptical as to whether they were worth the money! But, having seen what you've done since this morning, I reckon they are.

I really don’t want to like this but can’t help myself. Until these things arrived I travelled to school on 70s and 80s under somersault signals. These carbuncles appeared and the world changed…..lovely model though !

It is a curious fact that models of dmus and railcars are  almost always more attractive than the prototype!

Beauty in the eye of the beholder perhaps!  certainly the 455/ mk 3 based prototypes were long lived and not all faces were totally ugly the 450 class sits mid ugly  with the motor end a "plain jane" , even the BR 210 DEMU managed a bit better. 

Looking forward to this model and will save pennies for one.   The 80 class landed with me today and is equally crisp with little layering, and is sturdy with a stiffening ledge inside that chassis sits on fully supported and will give a floor base to enable a seat unit to be slotted in place.  I think the chassis can be screwed to this ledge as it is quite thick enough to take a self tapper.

Ah Robert, sure would you not have been better waiting on the IRM 80 Class?  

The Driving Trailer and the Intermediate are already there, with the Mk2B bodies. Just waiting on the Power Car! Surely only a matter of time!

Printing imperfections, which will need to be filled and sanded.
