Paul 34F Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Hello one and all, At the moment all my books are in store, (I have mentioned this previously elsewhere, sorry!). Would someone be kind enough to send me a copy via PM of the posed Official photograph of a GNRI train in the early Edwardian period. I believe the locomotive is either a Q or QL and the train is posed on a curve. If I recall correctly, the image is published in Locomotives of the GNRI. Thank you in anticipation, Kind regards Paul Quote
Irishswissernie Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 PM sent , hope its the one you want Loco is 172 Quote
Paul 34F Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 Many thanks to Irishswissernie for the photograph. It’s around 1913 when the S Class was new. My memory, maybe messing with me, as I recall a picture from a slightly earlier time frame. It maybe in another book, but I’m not sure which one. I’m chasing details of a van with the side light mounted above the Guards Lookout, (Caboose, on the some Dundalk diagrams). Not sure if it was an M1, M2 or even a W1? Hope this information may trigger someone’s memory. Kind regards Paul Quote
airfixfan Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Photo was in Pattersons history of the GNR. Quote
Paul 34F Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 Thank you airfixfan. Can anyone assist with the image, please? Kind regards Paul Quote
Galteemore Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 It’s the GN royal train of 1903. Also featured in Johnson. Will send you a shot. Quote
Flying Snail Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Loco is Q class 124 - there's a good shot of it all dolled up on p79, and the shot of the full train posed on the curve is on p80 of Johnson's book. I've just sent PM now. Quote
Paul 34F Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 FS, Thank you for the PM. That was the picture I was thinking of. Much appreciated. Kind regards Paul 1 Quote
Flying Snail Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 You'll also find an article on all the Royal trains used for the 1903 visit in the Locomotive magazine - this is the one GSWR 351 (the state coach) was built for. Can't remember which issue (its one of the 1903/04 ones), but back issues of the Locomotive are available online for a subscription. Quote
Paul 34F Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 Thank you for the information. I’ll have to search it out. Kind regards Paul 1 Quote
