0 Broithe
The OSI site is often very useful for this sort of thing - http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,610370,576422,7,10 - Annoyingly, the historic 25" map is blank for the old station itself - http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,610370,576422,7,9 - maybe it will turn up one day... 0 StevieB
What's the history of the excursion platforms at Youghal? A search online has revealed the following photos: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=youghal+railway+station&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjj8uGC_PPTAhVWF8AKHV56DS0Q_AUIDCgD&biw=1337&bih=1240#imgdii=J7Dx0P4kJzgOfM:&imgrc=3Y7J4pwuUePYoM: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=youghal+railway+station&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjj8uGC_PPTAhVWF8AKHV56DS0Q_AUIDCgD&biw=1337&bih=1240#imgdii=TdDzQIaF6VjQTM:&imgrc=6nxVcRHUtv4ZJM: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=1962+storm+damage+at+youghal&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjig6Omm6vUAhWiKMAKHWpDAVcQ_AUICygC&biw=1337&bih=1240#imgrc=zSlwGYah23jh6M: From these it would seem that they were constructed in the second decade of the 20th century and lasted until the storm damage in 1962 was repaired when the seaward side was removed. By then, though, I would have imagined that the traffic had declined to a level where the main platform plus the remaining excursion platform were sufficient, or as the latter just used as a siding? 0 Colin R
This is like a kid in a sweet shop, there is just to much I would love to model. A great location for a station Colin
0 jhb171achill
Ask the IRRS in Dublin - make enquiries through Norman Gamble or Tony O'Shaughnessy. They should be able to help.

The sole remaining excursion platform at the station was still in use in the mid-1970s for Summer excursion passenger traffic, but these workings ceased circa 1980, leaving the main station platform to handle the few remaining passenger specials such as GAA/Knock pilgrimage trains, with most likely the excursion platform no longer used. 0 StevieB
Thanks for those bits of information. Does anyone know where I might obtain a drawing of the station building - almost all of the photos I have come across are not clear enough to count bricks and so produce a drawing that way. Many thanks. Stephen

The last time I went in there by train, the main platform was the only one in use. It was a record society excursion about 1975/6/7 - would have to look up date. The excursion platforms http://kieranmccarthy.ie/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/852b.-Youghal-beach-and-Railway-Station-c.1910.jpgStephen That is an excellent picture, I note too the familiar signal cabin at the end of the platform had yet to make an appearance. These 8mm stills by the late Joe St Leger give a flavour of the 1970s period of excursion traffic, including a MkII AC set at the excursion platform. This photo would give you the rule of thumb to work the rest out;- http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20Q-U-V-Y/Youghal/IrishRailwayStations.html#Youghal_20050819_005_CC_JA.jpg Thanks Eoin, to my regret I never took a decent side profile picture of the building. This semi-high res version of the other picture I hope shows the bricks in more detail.
0 murrayec
... and here is the front from Google Maps, this gives you the fenestration to work up the front elevation after you have counted the bricks to do the rear!, interesting to see they plastered the front, I'd say the sea salt was wrecking the brick?
