heirflick Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 (edited) lads, at what stage did the cab side loco numbers change colour? which was first white or black? Edited March 17, 2013 by heirflick Quote
0 Garfield Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 The short answer is that they didn't change... the colour depends on the loco. Quote
0 wexfordloco10 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi All I Took a photo of 075 at Heuston 11 July 2007 fresh from paint shop but file is too large show this loco had white numbers David Wexford Quote
0 heirflick Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 and heres another 081 with black numbers it does appear that all nimbers up to were white, and fro 080 on were black 079 .....wheres JHB when you want him? Quote
0 Eiretrains Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 As garfield says they were never 'changed' and simply depends on the locomotive, with white/black being done in no particular order. A quick glance reveals 071, 075 and 082 have white numerals for example, were as the rest are black. Quote
0 jhb171achill Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Yes, that's it. No hard and fast pattern. I saw the first one painted while it was still in Inchicore and the numbers were white on the front, but they were changed to black before it was unveiled. Maybe they had already got some white numerals in stock and used them later? Earlier ones were generally black, white were generally later. Quote
0 Blu Bianco Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) From an image point of view, white does look better. In the case of 081, the second picture shows the process looking rather shoddy, almost like 'we have put it in white but maybe will change it to black. But rather than do it fully we will just try and layer the black over it'. I don't know if they were going for a 3D type image with it (doubt it!) but its not done very well either ways! But these little differences between the numbers within a particular class does give that extra bit of interest to the modelling side of things. Edited March 20, 2013 by Blu Bianco Quote
