jhb171achill Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Anyone know anything about this company? They used to make brass kits and also 3D prints (presumably via Shapeways) of various items from the land of Haggis, lake-dwelling monsters, men wearing tartan dresses and whiskey without an “e”. One was a brass kit of a six-wheeled first class saloon, which was very reminiscent of some similar vehicles on the GSWR. I believe that Mousa was a one-person operation, a bit like Provincial Wagons, Worsley Works or 00 Works. Their website has vanished lately. Was considering getting one of these saloons. Any ideas / info? Quote
Mol_PMB Posted January 22 Posted January 22 This link seems to work: Mousa Models https://mousa-models.co.uk/product-category/4mm-scale/ Threads on RMWeb suggest that the owner has been ill recently, but at present there's no suggestion that the models have been withdrawn entirely. Hope that helps. 1 1 Quote

Any ideas / info? Mousa Models is Bill Bedford. Unfortunately his production is erratic at best nowadays, and it's never entirely clear from the website what he has available or what he can make available. When he has a trade stand at finescale shows, it's best to just buy what you can see, 'cos the chances are that you may not see it again. Note also that he hasn't lived in Shetland for years. He has resided in Leytonstone, above the former premises of The Engine Shed model shop...which is now a hairdressers. Edited January 22 by Horsetan 2 2 Quote

Putting an 'E' in your whiskey is frowned upon by some people in uniform - and it ruins the effect, if you're taking it as a nightcap. Years ago, on the Big Island, there used to be 'E' stamps, for letters to the rest of the EU and a few other places. If you bought them, rather than stamps with the price on, then they were still usable after the price went up, as it did regularly did, so I used to get batches and keep a few in stock. One day, having bought some with a payment process that was hugely complicated, I realised, an hour later, than I didn't have the stamps, having, I presumed, left them on the counter in all the unnecessary confusion. So, I called in on my way back and got in the inevitable queue. By the time my turn at the counter came, there was a queue behind me, as well. I asked the woman behind the counter "Did I drop those Es in here this morning?" Unbeknownst to me, the chap behind me in the queue was an off-duty copper, so things got even more complicated then - eventually, I did go home with my stamps... Edited January 22 by Broithe 3 Quote
Tullygrainey Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) The 'Lists' option on the Mousa Models website allows you to see other items not listed in the main sections but mostly available to order. One of the 'hidden' categories is Irish coach etches specifically NCC, GNR(I) and BCDR. You need to be registered with the site to see these lists. I was able last year to order kits for BCDR 6 comp 3rds by emailing my order to Mousa. Edited January 22 by Tullygrainey 1 Quote
Brendan8056 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) I had some dealings with this company when it was "Bill Bedford" models, and took my deposit for an RTR WT class tank loco, that never appeared. Most of my deposit never re-appeared though he did accept some of it as payment for some etched sides and some 21mm gauge brass fold up wagon W irons. In the world of small scale model railway manufacture this can happen, some great modelmakers but terrible businessmen! I feel Horsetan is right, only buy from the sales stand, do not try ordering in advance, as the item may never be produced. Mousa Models certainly wins awards for the vaguest website. Example here As far as Irish coach etching lists are concerned, you have to register with the Mousa Models site before you are allowed to download, but I don't think you're missing much if my downloaded copy is anything to go by.
