Dave Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Hi Guys, I want to make a mimic panel with LED's for point indication. I want to do a schematic using black tape 5mm wide. Anyone know where I can buy some? Ta:-bd Quote
0 Broithe Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Would dark brown do? An old cassette or video tape..? Stick it on and varnish over.. Quote
0 Kirley Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I have read of people getting car stripe tape in Halfords and using that but I have never tried it myself. If you search on the net for 'making a model train control panel' you will probably find some suggestions there. Edited August 22, 2013 by Kirley Quote
0 Glenderg Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FASTRAX-4MM-X-10M-LINE-MASKING-TAPE-RC-MODELING-/370843395117?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item5657fd242d I assume this is for a Client Dave, rather than yourself? I was going to suggest laying down some insulating tape and cutting it into 5mm strips! The stuff above is the best you'll get, sticks like sh1t to a blanket. R. Quote
0 Broithe Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 You can get black Dymo tape from a lot of stationers and just stick it on without printing.. ..or, maybe it might even be helpful to indicate routes by printing..? ..I think it comes in 9 and 12 mm widths.. Quote
0 108 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Hi Dave. Send me your details and sizes. I can cut it in self adhesive vinyl to any size. Quote
0 Dave Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Thanks lad's, I have ordered that Richie. Thanks for the offer 108, I will take you up on that. I'm making a mimic panel for this Quote
0 108 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Hi Dave. What are your maximum dimensions for the mimic panel? Should I do the high level section in blue? Quote
0 Glenderg Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Nice work Dave, though I'd recommend censoring some of your workshop shots. Looks like too much fun altogether! Quote
0 Dave Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 The workshop is a mess, I just moved in. I haven't plugged the beer fridge in yet! Quote
0 Broithe Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 The workshop is a mess, I just moved in. I haven't plugged the beer fridge in yet! And the dog wants to go for a walk, too, I see. Quote
0 Glenderg Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Well when you do get it plugged it in, put it in the Calendar as "First Annual IRM Meeting" and I'm sure I can find a few to come inspect to H&S criteria of the fridge! BYOB I assume? Quote

BYOB I assume? Sounds good Richie, I'm sure I can stretch to a few beers Quote

0 Dave Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Have to wait till I get my layout started, I'm planning on a 12' x 5' layout that is suspended from the workshop roof and winch it down when I want to use it. Quote
0 BosKonay Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Seriously?! That sounds awesome! You'll have to put it on a motor with a remote! One click and the layout descends, trains running Very bond Quote
0 Dave Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Wow, that's a nice layout. I will just use a hand winch as an electric winch is very expensive. Quote
0 Broithe Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Wow, that's a nice layout. I will just use a hand winch as an electric winch is very expensive. They do have a reasonably-priced electric winch in Lidl, now and then.... ..also available without the swing-arm - for around €50/60. Quote
0 Glenderg Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 jaysus broithe, that's going too far altogether. buy a parkside winch, hoist your layout to the ceiling, and you'd have a nice little heart attack around four in the morning when a couple hundred weight of mdf comes crashing to the ground. The cheapest, and worst engineered tools ever. R. Quote
