Good morning all,

It may be wet outside but here's some shots that might make up for it!

Once again, my college course in the Dublin Institute of Technology allowed a visit to somewhere a little restricted - Inchicore. As a condition of posting these online, I can't post shots of the really, really interesting stuff (stored 201's and 141's). Shots include:

082 in Diesel 1 surrounded by bogies

8127 in the Fleet Casaulty Repair shop

228 shunting by the Running Shed

221+222 in the Ramps

Evening all,

A very productive lunchtime at Clonkeen with:

- 2807 + 2808 Limerick to Inchicore for the wheel lathe.

- Inspection Car 723 from Ballybrophy to Heuston.

- 219 and 220 on Cork MKIV services.

- TRV 700 on a run from Mallow to Heuston.

The WRC is closed between Athenry & Gort due to flooding so a 2800 operated from Galway to Limerick via Portarlington. I just managed to miss this one and was sitting in the car out of the cold when it passed (i.e. I forgot about it!).

And shots from yesterday's last Saturday of Santa Special trains between Pearse and Greystones. A credit to all who made it happen from both Irish Rail and the RPSI. Most trains ran to time (or a few minutes late), with only one major failure.

Evening all,

In dire weather conditions I ventured out yesterday for the three RPSI Santa Specials to Greystones which were worked by the RPSI's No. 4 and Iarnrod Eireann's 072 worked the final trip of the day.

Evening all,

I hope you all survived the Christmas festivities and didn't indulge too much!

I found myself in Limerick today and having a bit of spare time to myself I did a photographic survey of the Castlemungret Cement Branch. The Castlemungret branch also known as the Cement Branch, which was in essence a 4 mile long siding, was built in 1957. Prior to this Cement Ltd used to truck cement to Carey’s Road Yard for loading. The construction of the railway link was first mooted in 1953 and CIÉ made an application under the 1950 Transport Act. The Branch closed in 2009 when cement by rail ceased and the connection to the branch was removed from Limerick Check in 2013. The first part of this gallery uses photos from the Foynes Branch gallery as the lines run parallel from Limerick for the first mile or so.

The December gallery also had a small update today as well.

Good evening all,

It has been a fascinating year. From wheel skate trials in January, Mark 4's Connolly side in February and March, Ballast Cleaning (and top and tail 071's for the first time) throughout the year, Irish Railway Record Society, Railway Preservation Society of Ireland and Steam Dream's first Irish tour, Santa Specials and the fall and rise of De Deitrichs in service.

Personal highlights for the year were the college trip around Inchicore and starting to volunteer at Stradbally.

With it being New Years Eve its time its now time to launch the 2015 Year in Review Gallery. Like 2014 the gallery contains over 400 images covering some of the events of the past 12 months.

One of the pictures in the review is this image from December 2015 which showcases the annual RPSI Santa Specials. Unlike previous years the 2015 specials operated to Greystones instead of Maynooth due to engineering works at Grand Canal Dock.

In dire weather here we see No. 4 passing the Railway Cottages with the 1010 Pearse - Greystones on the final weekend of the Santa Specials. Sat 12.12.15

Thanks for posting. 22030 looks filthy. Presume that is caused by spray from standing water in the ballast.

We get the train down to Killarney a few times a year, walk to hotel, and hire electric bikes to cycle around Killarney national park and Muckross, but some of the cycleways and caddy paths we cycle on are well under water in your golf club pics. Killarney is a fabulous destination for a weekend break by train and cycling around the flat pathways in that stunning scenery and lakelands is magical. Ross castle is a favourite out of season when the tourist hoards are away.

Last time we were down the 22k had broken down (again) so we had a rather decrepit 2600 up to mallow. To add insult to injury the usual 201 hauled Mk4 set had been replaced by a 22k so hard fibreglass seats all the way to Dublin.

Good morning all,

A couple of shots from Stradbally taken in the first truly sunny day in the Midlands for about two weeks. With major track work going on to connect up the shed (and get these inside), more volunteers are always welcome.

Happy New Year all!

Kieran

Evening folks,

224 failed in Cork on Wednesday 30th December. It was eventually recovered to Inchicore on Tuesday 5th January when 088 was sent to collect it.

Click http://smu.gs/1Z3FKsU to see the pair passing Clonkeen on the way to Inchicore.

Nice pics. I especially like this one which contrasts the interesting shape and character of 071 compared to the rather boring shoe box 201. Ironic the old towing the new. :)

Wednesday 6th & Thursday 7th January 2016:

Pictures from these two days are mostly of 2800 Class transfers to/from Limerick - West of Ireland. These are currently operating via Portarlington while the Limerick - Athenry railway is closed due to flooding. Also features 215 and 221 on MKIV turns to Cork.
