Irish Rail 1983

Found this today, its not very clear, but may be of interest to someone on here, anyway there's a shot of what looks like an American steam loco at 8.54 on Irish Rail !!!

And it seems to be being pushed by a Metro-Vick or a Sulzer. Maybe for filming?

Don't think it looks like a Metro-Vick, and the Sulzers were all stopped from traffic in the 1970s... Maybe it's a bit of foreign footage that got put in by accident?

I think it's the footage of the Sean Connery "Great Train Robbery" train.

The Great Train Robbery was filmed in 77 or 78 with 184 & 186.

 

184 had a staring role disguised as a English South Eastern Railway 2-2-2 complete with dummy double frames. Most of the movie was filmed around Castletown on the Mullingar-Athlone line, with Moate as Ashford and Heuston temporarily re-named London Bridge.

 

184 was overhauled in Mullingar for the movie, both locos worked for several years in South Eastern livery and

 

The American loco looks like something that slipped in during editing.

I remember arriving in Hueston when the platform was all dressed like an English station , very weird
