From an editorial in a Model Railway News, around 1979ish.  Found in a pile of mags in Buffers near Axminster.

What's the story with this? The Mk2s look like European stock but that does look like an A class not a repainted 33...

The quality of photos and repro back in the day, no wonder manufacturers could get away with anything.

Yes looks a bit like a BR class 24. The extended buffer beam helps slightly with the illusion. Probably a kit bash of some type

Think this poped up before, seem to recall it was a hand made example for pr pre-possibly production?! Correct me if I'm wrong

Sorry lads no more info.

I had heard all the rumours about the pic and even spoke to the late John Byrne about it but nothing to ad 

The HO "A" did come out shortly after the ad but it was a 33 and the rest as they say is history.
