thewanderer Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 The one that got away finally succumbed to standardisation today at Laois Depot. Unit 22007 finally got the five digit number system after somehow escaping for a four year period with the obsolete cue-ball numbering system. Here it is outside Killarney in happier times http://smu.gs/wvnjvQ The Wanderer. Quote
heirflick Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 dont like the railcars, but i did like the old cueball numbering..it fitted in well with the livery. Quote
Broithe Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 The pool ball numbering system is used elsewhere.. Quote
Tarabuses Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I have to say that I like the look of the 22xxx railcars but am not happy with the main line role they are playing. Quote

Tarabuses Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Care to expand on this? The replacement of loco hauled trains. Quote
thewanderer Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 The replacement of loco hauled trains. Well I would rather have a high frequency, cheap to operate (in terms of staffing) than the low frequency, high cost loco hauled trains of yesterday. DMU operation has allowed IE to increase the frequency of several routes across the country. How can this be bad? Take the Kerry line. Loco hauled days : 4 up trains. 5 down trains. Current Dmu etable: 8 trains a day in each direction at regular intervals. Some of you may consider it a bland railway today but at the end of the day the passenger experience has improved considerably since the days of avelling in cold and and dark Cravens. Do you want to go back to that? The Wanderer. Quote
Eiretrains Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I was complacent, never getting around to capturing the orange cue-balls. Quote
Broithe Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I find the 22000s nice trains to travel in - far better than the similar Voyager over here, anyway. I sort of don't want to like them - but I do.. Quote
heirflick Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 broithe...now that you are in the guru league, do you feel any wiser? Quote
Broithe Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 broithe...now that you are in the guru league, do you feel any wiser? I did feel that I should make an effort to bring enlightenment to the commuters this morning.. I still think it should say "gubu"... Quote

heirflick Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 nah, that brings back too many bad memories of the CJ era, when he said the words 'as a nation we are living way beyond our means' now that comment was 'grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented'. Quote

heirflick Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 tony, i see where you are comming from....i could watch 201's and 071's pulling trains all day long, but i wouldnt do the same with the railcars. there is one exception the 2700 series sets in the comuter livery Quote
