Three stupid bandits

Three stupid bandits are waiting for a train which will never come !   I'm very happy with the résult. It's the very first time that I build a Gn15 layout with scenery. The diameter is only 20 cm. I built it just for the fun and nothing else. I used Peco 0n30 track. Have fun !

00 gauge / Gn15 micro layout

This is my first 00 gauge micro layout. The dimensions are: 41cm x 65cm. The radius for these very tight curves is only...175mm !  I cut the rail with my standard side cutting pliers...and it works well for me. I cleaned the end of the rails with a small file before fitting the fishplates. Just one Hornby 0-4-0 steam loco with three short wheelbase wagons. And that's all ! No need for DCC, so it's only a very basic DC controller. I'm very happy with the result. I just wanted to prove to myself t

Lima track conversion chart

Good Afternoon All After 40 years I have finally started on building my long promised model railway in my retirement. They say you are never too old to start something and I am really enjoying it. I have a problem! IS there such a beast around as a Lima track conversion chart or can anybody point me in the direction of same? If I try Miss Google anymore I shall go insane. I know- it all depends on what you type as a question!!! All help shall be most gratefully received. My thanks to all who

choice of controller

Hi, I have 300 euro to spend on a controller . I have a choice between the Hornby Elite and the Bachmann Dynamis. I have about ten locos. I would only run about two or three at a time. I would like to change the cv on some. I have read good and bad advice on both. Any advice on which one I should choose.   Thanks,   Controller.

Cultra

Haven't done a blog for a while, but decided the trip to Cultra was worth it. Have been looking forward to it since I first got the invite over a year ago, though at times I will admit to questioning my own sanity! Nearly 1000 miles of driving, two ferry rides and four nights away - for just a one day show - certainly make you wonder. Equally, it is a chance to bring a properly broad gauge layout to its spiritual homeland, while the chance to exhibit in the truly wonderful venue that is Cultra a

Dublin Bus

I am presently building a ride on toy bus for my infant grandson and wish to paint it in the current Dublin Bus colours of Yellow, and both shades of Blue. I am looking for any information or advice out there on where to locate the precise shades of the three colours, and also any information regarding the best method to obtain the best paint finish. The material I'm using is almost all 10mm, 3/8" plywood.   Thank you in anticipation!

An interesting weekend

I had a very interesting weekend well Saturday anyway touring layouts at an informal American Railroaders convention in Auckland. We visited four layouts including our hosts N gauge.   Second: A double and treble deck GNR layout in a converted double garage. The government owned NZR was very slow in completing rail links in Northland ferry sailings on Kaipara Harbour ceasing in the late 1940s when Dargaville was finally connected to the national network.   Finally: How many modellers can

Arigna Town at St Neots

It was a fine weekend at the Wood Green Animal Centre, venue for the St Neots show. A different sort of hall to the usual school hall/sports centre usually favoured for model shows. Beaten earth floor for one - though it was carpeted, if a little uneven. A big space - am guessing around 200 feet long and 100 wide, so plenty of room for lots of big layouts. Star of the show was Fencehouses, a 2mm fine scale layout, bigger than many 0 gauge ones. It exploits the scenic potential of the scale, yet

Arigna Town in 2016

There are ten shows booked for this year, so will again try to record what transpires. St Albans went pretty well two weeks ago, with those lovely photos from Tony Wright. These have generated an invite to do an article for British Railway Modelling. Since then invite to Manchester in December has been accepted, but Eurospoor in Holland will have to wait for another year, as it is just before Cultra. Pontefract was a good weekend, though a long way to drive on my own - particularly coming h

Sniper competition

Since 9/11 they hold a sniper competition in Fort Benning, USA open to all countries . Teams of 2 take part over a 4 day period with very little sleep etc This year a team from Ireland consisting of a spotter and a sniper beat out teams from USA, Germany ,France , UK, Canada etc and came in first. Its the first time a team from outside US won. So it seems Ireland can beat out the so called top Special Forces outfits . Way to go Ireland.

Arigna Town Exhibition Blog

Arigna Town is about to embark on a series of exhibition dates, starting with the three day show at York over Easter. Hence thought it might be of interest to record my experiences in the coming weeks & months as, after York, there is Epsom [25/6 April], Gravesend [May], Bexhill [Aug], Worthing [sept], Beckenham [Oct] and Tolworth [Nov]. York will be the layout’s 4th outing &, as usual, following the previous one at Orpington in January, there is a list of things to attend to. Howev
