  1. Clever and I'm sure the makers of magnetic couplings may be interested in producing this, he should patent it. (and as noted the design has other potential uses) It looks like a great deal of precision is required to get it to act as a chock against a wheel flange. It seems to me it would be less fussy and easier to to install if it simply held an axle. That would still be very discreet.
  2. I have my doubts about magnetic couplings but that video puts a new slant on things, the demo looks very good, but I have the same question as DJ, what is he using to break the magnetic field, pity that isn't explained.
  3. That's incredible surely it would have died the first time it got that treatment. That said we had one that lived 11 years and endured much, but that's another storey.
  4. Refer to the report published by Boliden about 18 months ago. https://www.boliden.com/490e8a/globalassets/operations/exploration/mineral-resources-and-mineral-reserves-pdf/2021/bol_main-1847699-v1-resources-and-reserves-tara-mines-2021-12-31.pdf Significantly they said "The newly discovered deposit, termed ‘Tara Deep’ is located approximately 1km southeast of the main mine and is currently a major focus for exploration and development" For what it's worth my opinion is that the current strategy of Boligen is two fold, (a) drive up the price of zinc and (b) to secure a deal on the price of energy from the government. While this causes great anguish to their employees in the short to medium term, nonetheless I think the mine is quite important to them in the longer term..
  5. Maybe a play to get an energy deal from the government which is understandable. Per one comment this morning there are significant adjacent reserves.
  6. Sir, I regret becoming involved in this conversation. I did not suggest you were lying, but what you are saying doesn't make sense to me and it would be helpful if you would enlighten us as you obviously know something about the operation of a paypal account that I don't. If you read my posting you will note I did acknowledge that a paypal account may be funded "via the receipt of money from others" but that still leaves the question, how do you withdraw that money?
  7. How do you fund your paypal account? A paypal account must be linked to a bank account or a credit card account from which paypal draws money to cover the payments you make via paypal. A paypal account may also be funded via the receipt of money from others (eg a sale on Ebay) in which case you can carry a balance with paypal which can be used to fund purchases you pay with paypal. But it seems to me in all cases the money moving through paypal is coming from either bank or credit card accounts.
  8. Here's the real thing http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FwmwojeWOUg/TzkreMel6yI/AAAAAAAAGB4/wphSdOoZBtk/s400/1063.JPG
  9. It's interesting that CRH operate cement traffic on UK rails (via their Tarmac subsidiary) but ceased operating cement traffic on Irish Rails.
  10. Sorry I can't resist, is it perhaps platform 9 ¾ ??
  11. Hi Noel, No one is being exploited. It really doesn't matter what price someone might be willing to pay for any model. That will always drive the market at a particular point in time. And of course the appearance of a newer better version of anything will affect the market and buyers are aware that this may happen,. In the end the price paid is a price the buyer is content with, whatever their reason for paying it. We can't second guess this or read minds. You have on a number of occasions described the Lima 201 as a "doorstop" and that is not a fair way to describe a landmark model which was the very first of its kind and as such is still of interest to collectors (and even to those who cannot afford the newer one). Those that secured them at exorbitant prices wanted them and are probably quite happy with them regardless of the collapse in market price. I can think of a lot worse stuff produced by Lima and Hornby that predate the 201 that collectors have an interest in and are prepared to pay for.
  12. He wasn't entirely as pure as the driven snow, none of us are. I'm just suggesting that a poor choice of words be ignored, and we keep our focus.
  13. Oh please, live and let live
  14. Oh Dear, there's no hope for you, following up glue with acetone.
  15. I should apologise. after more research it would appear the footbridge in Connolly Stn was only truncated in the early '80s. From photos posted by Irishwissernie it looks like the section spanning the terminal side of the station may have only been removed as late as 1995.
  16. Same here, I was using the commuter services daily in 1989 and never saw the green strip depicted in the photograph above on either a loco or a Mk3 coach. There is something very odd about that photograph, if that is Connolly station and I think it is, The footbridge that is visible was removed in the early '80s as part of the renovations made to the station in the early '80s in preparation for the introduction of the DART services and long before introduction of the tippex livery Additionally there are no over head cables visible. Photoshopped???
  17. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end. Catering services were suspended as part of the Covid19 restrictions and it seems there has been difficulty negotiating a contract for a resumption with service providers. However, it seems there will be some limited resumption on the Dublin Cork route in the course of this month. From the IE website; - Intercity Routes (excluding Belfast) Catering services will resume from early April 2023 on the Cork to Dublin route on a phased basis. For further information please see our Catering News story. Belfast Services On-board catering is available on the Dublin - Belfast Enterprise services. See below for the menus available on Enterprise services. Enterprise - Full Service Menu Enterprise - Trolley Service
  18. Since it would appear this project never came to fruition, did anyone that placed an order and advanced a deposit ever get a refund? I have a particular interest in this question and in the event anyone does not want to respond publicly I would appreciate a PM. Thank you Tom
  19. There was a hard border at that time, I think all trains stopped at Goraghwood, for customs.
  20. I know railcars were used to operate the Enterprise service at some point post steam, but I don't think it was a straight switch from one to the other. I definitely did travel to Belfast late '50s behind a diesel that was substituted for a Jeep at Goraghwood and I didn't dream that.
  21. I don't think diesels operated all the way through to Belfast in the late '50s. I remember travelling to Belfast and the diesel was substituted with a Jeep at Goraghwood.
  22. I agree, let's not speculate but if what I'm reading here is correct this was an accident waiting to happen.
  23. Since this was a head on crash on a double track line one of these trains was on the wrong line. I believe trains in Greece travel on the right and from the pictures it looks like the passenger train was on the left. How that happened is the question, it is an incredible error in this day and age. I also wonder what the protocol is when a driver realises they are on the wrong track as surely must have been the case.
  24. Less is more, a great example of what can be achieved in a small space, really exceptional.
