  1. off the level crossing at Buggleskelly...
  2. CIE certainly turned it's hand to a few diverse things, these lads seem to be having fun with a bit of a top heavy load...
  3. The trucks and vans book sounds good, but t'internet doesn't seem to fjnd it unfortunately, tho theres a few pics of random CIE stuff...these amused me as I only really think of them as BR machines ..
  4. I'd heard similar tale to the above, hence my earlier comments, such a pity if that's the way it's going..
  5. Tralee is particularly tragic as the no5 loco came all the way back from the US, was got up and running nicely, and trains operating, but now is derelict again by all accounts..(this came up in another thread where I was after some 'from above' detail pics of T&D locos)
  6. Glad to hear that Clare was still going recently, maybe I was misinformed, I heard somewhere that the locos and stock were all abandoned and decaying, very glad if I'm wrong !... no thread derail worries lads, it's all interesting stuff ...
  7. I imagine ESB would have found them very handy with the Rural Electrification Scheme certainly ! I'm wondering if there's any books on CIE trucks and vehicles in general, and especially 40s 50s 60s eras.. I'm in danger of going off on another modelling tangent here!
  8. Very good points you raise there, and very well put..it's still such a tragedy when something is brought back to life against all odds, only to be left to rot again, the Tralee & Dingle we mentioned in another thread springs to mind here too. I'll have to try and win 20 million on a lottery or something and step in..!
  9. I believe the preserved bit of the West Clare is another one that's fallen into decay sadly, from what I've heard..
  10. Folks would probably ask me for train information anyway.. ..tho of course I could give the classic reply..."ahh.. now, if you're going there I wouldn't be starting from here.."
  11. That's fantastic, really top class ! Never heard of "Hookers green" tho, sounds like something to do with Heirflick's Portlaoise malarkey..!!
  12. Yep, I've got one like that too Andy, was thinking it'd look well with a flying snail logo on the door...!
  13. The old land rover does well enough just to stop itself, provided you give it a bit of advance notice ! You'd need a good old brake van, or two, to stop a train with a LR loco... I was really wondering more if CIE used any Land Rovers in a more general capacity, as a van or whatever, but seems probably not..
  14. Interesting, thanks for that.. I know they did produce a special land rover kit with railway wheels, though I expect this was designed for the Brit 4' .8¹/² track..
  15. Just wondering, as there's been a bit of talk about vehicles, buses etc, anyone know if CIE used Land Rovers at all, I'm thinking 60s era.. likely youd think for track gangs or work in out of the way locations. I 've never seen one or any pics, but thought it'd be a vehicle they would have had a use for and be interesting to see if anyone's got any info..
  16. I admired the wee bus too, and it's traditional to have a bus on the bridge...
  17. Councillors = ar$eholes....no doubt theyve got some agenda in place that'll end up with the whole thing being deliberately trashed then the ground sold off cheap, developed, whatever, and profit made... Not much point contacting them then...
  18. For feck's sake!...all the way back from the USA running again, then back to a hulk, seriously.. I looked at the T&D preservation society or whatever it is, they seem to be seeking volunteers/ donations, so I'm guessing somewhere in the pipeline is the notion of getting it all up and running again... I'll email em and see if I can get any intel...
  19. Repatriated Loco no 5 , the 2-6-2 version was being run in preservation at Blennerville once upon a time, but I'm not sure what's happening with that one nowadays, I'll make some enquiries tho , good call..
  20. Well it certainly makes it's point doesn't it..!
  21. Jaysus..don't tell me he's actually the blonde girl...
  22. Heirflick should be getting a nice letter of thanks from Bord Failte in Co Laois, for the sudden boost in the tourist trade..tho dunno if 'sex tourists' are quite what they had in mind...
  23. You'll be wanting the shower when you get back from Portlaoise.!
  24. I'm looking for a decent view from overhead or at least a good high angle view point, on the 2-6-0 T&D Hunslett locos, I've scoured through many, many photos in books I've acquired and on line, there seems to be a shortage, ( ie none usable! ) and unclear tantilising glimpses...you'd think someone would have snapped one from the footbridge at Ballinamore in their C&L days!.... I'm wanting some good modelling detail as to what's going on in that area of the loco. I've got a rather basic white metal 7mm Slimrails kit of one (in bits) but looks a bit like they've done some guessing, and there's no clues as to pipework and stuff ! I'm planning ultimately a 10mm model ( currently doing cardboard mock ups mentioned in another thread ) so will need some good detail at that size.. If anyone has any shots that'd be grand !
  25. Some fellas pay extra for that..!
