I have quite a few Hill of Howth negs to upload. A bit of a niche subject for modellers, I think I can remember a tram or trams on the old Cyril Fry layout. Pity the tramway didn't have a steam worked goods service like Fintona but it would have been uneconomic partly because of the short distance from Howth and Sutton stations but also the steep gradients on the line would have been impractical for a steam worked service.. Yes its Lough Melvin on the cattle train . Its the one on the right in the distance which the photographer stated was Lough Gill but David has pointed out it can't be as it was at Dundalk.

The UK currently has (I think) only one log train service and runs from Carlisle to Chirk Kronospan. The MTS return via the West Coast Main Line via Shap overnight, however the loads run via the spectacular Settle & Carlisle line with a stop at Blea Moor for an hour in the early afternoon. Whilst avoiding er sorry awaiting Madame visiting the local Plant Festival I have uploaded the video of the departure from Blea Moor onto the single line over Ribblehead viaduct. Pity about the wind but you can't win em all! 2026-04-22 Blea Moor, 70817 exits the loop on Carlisle- Chirk Kronospan Logs.

This one arrived today, Strabane with ex CDRJC stock on transporters for Belfast Museum. The interesting bit for me is the glimpse of the ex GNRI Goods yard with the cattle dock and in the distance on the left the large goods shed. Photographers in the past seemed to head for the narrow gauge and transfer areas and photos of the ex GNR goods yard are rare. Looking through the files for photos I have unearthed 6 rather poor views of the old Sligo & Donegal Junction narrow gauge loft layout of some 25 years ago . I don't think I took them because of the poor quality, unfortunately due to demands from the household authority and the needs of 5 growing offspring, much to my regret the layout had to be dismantled. I have some much better qualtiy material to add today to Ernie's Railway Archive.
