The Cravens was in use; I traveled in it from Limerick Junction to Portarlington. I didn't notice that the corridor connection would be locked as I didn't need to switch coaches. As it was a warm day 18th June 2003 (found me diary!) the lack of heating didn't twig either. Ernie

Cravens and other non air conditioned types never ran in service with "supertrain" types, though a very small number of instances of older types being towed out of service behind a Mk 2 (but not Mk 3) set did occur. This reminded me of a trip I made on the early morning (I think about 6am at Limerick Junction) Cork to Dublin in June 2003. The set normally compose of Mark 2 Air conditioned stock had a Cravens at the head end . It was in use, you can see the windows on the doors are open. A couple of 'stills' from my video Ernie

Its probably just Flickr, I've just been on and its working OK. Holidays and weekends see a large increase in 'hits' so it may just have been heavy 'traffic'. There have been over 8,000 hits today on the 4,000 odd remaining images, compared to 10,500 for all yesterday on 32,000 plus. Ernie

Just a quick up-date on the Archive, I have had problems with images being snipped, copied and even prints sold from some of the England/Scotland/Wales collections and this has upset some of the photographers/copyright holders. I don't need this hassle and I also don't want to cause distress to the copyright holders particularly at their time of life. I have had no problems with the Irish Archive so this one will continue with (hopefully) new material from time to time.The other Archives (Isle of Man & Spain excepted) have been closed. Ernie

These were empty, came in from the east the day before and stabled overnight in the old Ballinrobe platform. The van could well be 24850. I think the last number is a 0 Ernie

I think it could well be Headford Juntion, I have a view looking the other way on Flickr. It would seem to fit! The photographer also did Killarney, Tralee and the line to Valentia so it would fit. Thanks Ernie

Where were the Amonias serviced? I can't remember seeing any at Limerick Works so perhaps there was another agreement with the Leasors to maintain them at Marino Point or Shelton. I video'd a set at Mallow in May2000 with an additional tank tagged on behind the last barrier wagon so perhaps it had just been done. Ernie

For a bit of individuality why not model an essential addition to the MU piping? ie a bit of rope as per this: 127+129 Limerick to Rosslare Harbour Oct 2000. Ernie

I have already added most of the Narrow Gauge views and am working through the 'standard' gauge material. Many of the captions have had to be amended as the information on the negatives was inaccurate or incomplete. I have added some to the 'Locations Unknown' Album as I have been unable to determine the location. Should any of the captions be wrong or you can identify any please put a note on the thread Ernie

Yes, I realise that now! The last Mark 1 Gen van I ordered through Modelfair actually came direct from Silver Fox some months later! Ernie

I've just tried e-mailing them again. Back in June 2013 I ordered a Silver Fox 3 car push/pull set, they kept 10% deposit and said delivery was 6 to 8 months; its now 17 months later and I have had no reply to e-mail or phone calls. Ernie

I'm pretty sure it is Newbridge. on further study I think the white rectangle is on the footbridge rather than the overbridge. The slide is very dark unfortunately. Ernie

I think its possibly either Hazelhatch or Newbridge but the absence of a footbridge is a bit confusing. March 1999 Ernie

I video'd this one as well , its a bit later than the 90's. The tractor had a bit of help from a 141 in getting the tank wagons (10 of them I think) started. Ernie

I have just acquired some of the IRISH Freight shop Guinness wagons which have the 2 varieties of containers. Now all my photos from my visits in 2000 to 2006 only show the triple stack variety actually in use on wagons apart from a couple at Dundalk in October 2000. Does anyone know if the double stack type was more commonly used in the 2000 to 2006 period and were the 2 types mixed on wagons. Thanks Ernie

My son Alan produces 3D models, mainly of narrow gauge prototypes; however over the last few months he has been working on a 4mm scale 3D bubble body , to be used in conjunction with the Dapol Prestwin kit and the SSM detail etchings.
