Oh is that certain that any expansion of the wires will be 25kV? That's really good news if it is. Does that include the more imminent Dublin area expansion(s), especially DART+ West? I have long believed that we are at a point that still allows us to "escape" from 1500Vdc rather than try to roll it out nationwide. We delayed electrification for so long that it allows us this advantage at least!

That's actually a fair point which I had never really considered.

That's the power pickup spring. It should be parallel to the bogie frame and in behind the 3 wheels, touching the insides of the wheel faces. Can you compare to the other side of the bogie and try to seat the pickup to match the good side?

Looks better in those pics. Maybe just the light/camera combination in the original pic. You won't want to send it back because there are no replacements and putting the bits back on a loco is basically par for the course with many models, so the best thing is to lay out the bits and try to match them up using the exploded diagram. The only thing of any real concern would be the shorting you reported. Which piece is it sparking from?
-
One wheel is also a different colour. Never seen that before on a new one. Can you take some more pics of it @Darrman ?
-
The bits that fell off can be put back on but the colour looks sort of washed out. Doesn't look like my 203.

DJ is going to ask the lads if there are any spares available. That would obviously be the ideal solution. Heavy weathering might be a good idea alright.

A sad tale today. I am currently trying to piece an 048 back together after a fall from height. The fall was so bad it resulted in a bent chassis. This is one of @DJ Dangerous locos, not mine. The damage is extensive, the bogies themselves left hanging by their pickup wires, a crack in the body and some paint damage, missing wiper blade which was not recovered, cracked bogie frame, radiator grilles popped out, windscreens smashed in and both horns sheared off to boot. She will be patched up as best as possible and sent on her way to Tenerife when I'm done, hopefully running at least, even if not in perfect cosmetic order .

It was around in the 90's Rob...it may have travelled by rail, but it seems unlikely, but not impossible. I can live with that

Cheers Mogul. I will have to use rule 1 on it then lol. The above pic is from a series taken in GB (on the railway) so they got that far at least. That will have to do

The new Dapol class 59 and it's Lima stablemate
murphaph replied to spudfan's topic in British Outline Modelling
The Lima model holds its own in comparison to the Dapol one alright, though the lack of lighting would be an issue for me personally. Nothing that can't be retrofitted though. Any plans to do the CD motor upgrade to the Lima pancakes? Seems like it would be well worth doing on such a nice model. -
I am guessing the 45mm track in Gauge 1 (1:32) doesn't look as bad as 16.5mm in 00 (1:76). It's off by 5mm I guess but over the 45mm maybe not as noticeable?

Marklin announces Special edition Flying Scotsman.
murphaph replied to steventrain's topic in British Outline Modelling
Very....interesting! So, I can understand (I think) why a Trix DC/DCC H0 version of this makes absolute sense...it did travel to Australia and the US where H0 scale dominates, but did it ever go to continental Europe? The Märklin version seems mega optimistic to me but what do I know. I hope the price doesn't scare too many people off. -
It's also the case that some people are being encouraged to part with their sole MM loco that they bought for the novelty value when they cost €100 or whatever. Many people never moved from modelling GB outline to Irish but did buy the MM locos when they came out for the novelty value. There must be quite a few of these locos knocking around still and these folks will not be interested in a swap at all. There are probably many MM locos owned by people who aren't even in the hobby anymore, they would also have no interest in a swap. I would focus on finding one for sale rather than a swap as you have the easier to sell examples that go for the most money
-
Maybe ask if anyone has a black one to sell rather than swap and if they do, sell one of your ones and buy it.

I am a customer of https://www.architekturbedarf.de/ and they retail Evergreen products but also unbranded equivalents. I live in Germany though so check postage rates before ordering. They do ship outside Germany.

Yeah a lovely afternoon and only down the road so very handy. The Deltic was on static display so no fear of it rolling off the edge thankfully! The husband and wife displaying it are actually from near to where I live and they had several other GB items on display. They were even familiar with Sam's Trains lol. He has a very broad audience! To be honest I have never really been interested in the larger scales. I always considered OO the upper limit but man, that RC live steam really has something. I don't want to know what those locos cost but "several A classes" probably just about covers it. A nice idea for a garden railway some day maybe.

A few random images and videos (including a Deltic from a well known Irish manufacturer ) from my local model fair today. The event is annual and attracts some local clubs including the layout from the local comprehensive school here in our town (Brieselang). Hope you enjoy the images. Some pics as well in no particular order:

The Irish Rail and IE ones are the most desirable if you ask me. If you can't find a swap partner, just sell them for the going rate and buy the black ones you want. Is PM releasing any black ones this year? If so, you could sell them now for good money then buy the black ones and renumber any duplicates (much easier than a full respray!) I suspect you will find a swap partner for both locos to be honest.
-
You can also buy "low pressure" spray nozzles that release less paint than the standard ones. They cost buttons on eBay. I tried this first before just abandoning rattle cans.
-
For that sort of money you can get an awful lot of primer for the airbrush and it lasts much longer as most of it ends up on the model rather than flying past it. I stopped priming with rattle cans once I realised how expensive it is. Just a thought but I don't want to disrupt the thread so carry on

Looks excellent Owen!
