  1. 'tis funny, in a way, that we take such models for granted that we moan about couplings. In years gone by, we never had the models....
  2. I have to say I can't even begin to imagine the troubles you must have had to get the master looking halfway right. I have smoothed off the cab front "cap" at one end to match the other and get rid of the "threepenny bit" effect that was still there. Anyone needing to fill or reinforce a resin cast/moulding could do worse than mix superglue with model filler (or DIY filler from your nearest Wigoders will work) into a paste that will stick to your workpiece and set surprisingly hard, allowing you to sand, file or carve off to the desired shape.
  3. Aha! So it wasn't my imagination, Des....! I found two clear photos of 103 in the "Rails Through The West" book, and the windscreen bases are decidedly horizontal there as well.
  4. Window base is definitely flat -all three panes are in the horizontal. Same here as well
  5. That would be Des. I'm definitely going mad.
  6. The SSM glazing template looks like a rhomboid. I must be going mad.
  7. Right so, a rhomboid shape and not a regular rectangle?
  8. Started on the body, with a bit of filling and filing of windows and frames: The thing I'm confused by are the cab front windscreens: the SSM cutting guides suggest the outer pair are slanted, but all the photos I'm seeing suggest that they are perfectly straight:
  9. I'm just after getting a massive power cut here. Whole streets affected. Merry feckin' Christmas.
  10. ....and difficult to get spares for if anything goes wrong. I've tried.
  11. That's knocked four moves off mine.
  12. Still working, waiting for the turkey, so!
  13. Will 21mm be an option on your custom-made DARTs?
  14. (Ten hours later) Think I've found a couple of other sources of the 12T and 20T spur gears; not too expensive. Original Heljan Hymek geartrain looks like this: ....whereas the room left for a centre axle on the Sulzer bogie looks like this: A bit close to the idlers.
  15. If ye're near the South Dublin MRC, I wonder if they'd give a lend of Adavoyle Junction so that your DARTs can be test run on all facets of 21mm gauge.
  16. What was the answer to your Longford shunting puzzle in the end, John?
  17. The large Heljan cog (the initial stage driven by the worm) is 10.92mm overall diameter, and has 20 teeth. Bill Bedford reckons all Heljan gears are 0.5MOD.
  18. Brilliant.
  19. Looks so much more convincing on 21mm.
