Kirley replied to Flying Scotsman 4472's topic in British Outline Modelling
Nice to see your "Shefield coaches" getting a run out. -
I undertook a Railway holiday last month travelling via Scotland to Yorkshire and visited a number of Historical Railways along with the National Railway Museum at York. Of course I took loads of photographs and I have put some up for viewing in the Photos of the Prototype section. LNER Class A4 4498 Sir Nigel

I undertook a Railway holiday last month travelling via Scotland to Yorkshire and visited a number of Historical Railways along with the National Railway Museum at York. The trip in Yorkshire was an organised one so you only had limited time to see around you and some of the photographs were taken from inside a moving carriage and the clarity in those is poor. Also it was during the very good spell of weather and very bright sunshine did not help in capturing a good image. Beautiful photographs oozing of nostalgia and a longing for what once was -
Excellent Gareth, very helpful in showing how to build up a scene with great results.

Sorry for not coming back to you sooner but I've been away - I used thicker styrene and heated it with a hair dryer to get some more of a curve to the roof and felt the thicker plastic held the shape better. You can use my picture if you think it is of good enough standard to meet your needs.

Finally finished the Studio Scale Models CIE 30 Ton Brake Van Kit. Fiddly in parts but having done one a second one would be much easier. Some parts were missing or mislaid by me and I had to improvise from the scrap brass. I used thicker plastic card for the roof but am not totally satisfied with it. Overall a nice model and thanks to Westie for introducing it.

I'm trying to source coloured pictures of UTA lorries -the very few I've come across are all black & white? Any suggestions please?

So you're the Wiggy of the "wiggyatheweekend" fame. When I started Irish modelling I followed your videos to learn what could be done. Welcome to the site. You are moving at some pace in putting together your new layout. I'll follow your progress with interest.

Excellent -your have artistic skill to produce such work.

Did not realise that football topics were allowed on this forum -O what missed opportunities, I could have mentioned Man City latest achievements!
-
Nice to see you have named your layout, everytime I see your latest video I see another area worked on with the standard always high.
-
Excellent work E-man, mine has been sitting at the apply the handrails stage, I must get it finished. Did Westie say it could be built in an hour? not by me anyway.

Thanks for the comments -the wash unit I got on ebay -it may have been a Lima one

A quick visit to The Downpatrick & County Down Railway Society today and saw their new carriage building. There are some pictures of its interior. I’m sure you will agree it’s a fantastic new facility and congratulations to all at Downpatrick

Sorry Boskonay, that's all I took. There would be photographs on the previous sites on my Workshop page

I started this layout about 3 years ago but never developed it further. Making/adapting models took my main interest and the layout took a back stage and the difficulties in working in a loft environment resulted in little enthusiasm to complete it to its full potential. So I have decided to abandon the loft layout and start a new one at ground level. I took some pictures of the layout and some of the stock I have built up over the past years before I start dismantling track etc for the new one. I intend to move to DCC and hope to put up some pictures of the new layout as it progresses

No, I took lots of Loughrea because I was so impressed with it. I'm sure there will be other photographs of the pre -production 071 by others to come later. -

Just back from the Bangor Show. Well attended with lots of Suppliers and Traders. It was good to meet members from this side including some "Moderators" The star of the show was on The Model Shop, Belfast stand with a 071 in a glass case. Sorry about the poor quality of the photographs. The best layout for me was Loughrea by MRSI This was the first time I had seen it and was very impressed. -
A Village in Ireland As some light relief away from “engineering” I thought I would try some buildings for my layout. When I saw a book on ebay containing a card model of an Irish Village I thought I would give it a go. It was not a pre –cut out kit like Melcalfe and each piece had to be cut out which did away with the light relief aspect of this project. In truth it was death by a thousand cuts not to mention how many scalpel blades I went through. Well it’s finished now and I suppose for £6 it was not a bad purchase and should look better when built into the layout.
