I have never used a vinyl overlay so not familiar with the ins and outs of using them, you might be better using the Hornby Mk2f as they are nearer our own Mk2d the air conditioning fan on the underside being the most notable difference .

The 2x 141s on the Mk3 set happened during the period in 1986 when the 071 class were temporarily withdrawn from traffic due to cracks being discovered on some members of the class.

Numbers aren’t fully finalized until decoration stage.
That’s great you can adjust numbers according to initial orders to an extent.

Some time ago, I decided to build a Dutch Van to go with my rake of RPSI Mk 2 coaches.
A couple of years ago, at an exhibition, I picked up an old Triang Track Cleaning wagon, with no roof and a broken bogie, for £1.00. Later in the year at another exhibition, I picked up an old Triang Transcontinental Reefer Boxcar with a broken roof also for £1.00. The bogies were used to repair the track cleaning wagon, and the roof, after repair and adjustment, was also used on the track cleaner.
That left a perfectly good Reefer body in my junk box. After checking the dimensions, it was found to be 1mm longer than a Dutch Van would be, but the width was fine. A bit of work with a fine saw and a file, saw the height reduced and the raised detail on the sides and ends removed, leaving a very useable shell for a Dutch Van.
This van was to be one of the original steam generator type, one of which is now running with the RPSI as No 462.
A new roof was fabricated, using two Triang Hornby LWB goods brake van roofs to get the basic arc for the roof, plastic strip makes up the extra width. Ribbing was added using plastic rod flattened on one side, and roof detail made from plasticard, and bits of scrap plastic.
This is a picture of the roof of an EGV Dutch Van under construction using the two Triang roofs.
Windows and doors were either cut out, or scribed where appropriate, and handrails and other detail added.
The van is currently sitting on Jouef MK3 coach bogies, which surprisingly don’t look too much out of place, but these will ultimately be replaced with something more suitable at a later date.
After priming with grey primer from Halfords, which would normally reveal any imperfections in the construction of the vehicle, I am glad to say the primer revealed nothing worth talking about.
The next step was to finish it off in RPSI livery, glaze it and finish the underframe.
Almost completed. Just glazing and underframe detail to do.
I have to say, I am really pleased the way it has turned out, even down to only having the lining on one side, as the prototype had at one time.
From refrigerator van to heating van:-
Any Idea What green did you use on this ?

I enjoyed these years back but driving now from Cork to Dublin first, Parking in Connolly, Train up then is now massively expensive.
I booked to go to Model rail Scotland this Friday by Ryanair a few weeks back €33.38 Return , checked a day return to Belfast on 23rd April and best price is €35.98

Sounds about right. I've decided to buy a 121 MM0124 or MM0129 in Iarnród Éireann livery, it looks gorgeous in those colours and the 121 class has really grown on me. I'll hopefully get it in Marks in Cork this week before they sell out. I have about 25 locos but this will be my first one bought new. It's way more than I usually spend on a loco but at least from a dry financial point of view it's almost an investment.
Thanks for all the insights in this thread.
You won’t regret buying them they are beautiful locomotives and look great on a layout or in a display case .

The 141/181 locomotives could be one of the 2022 new announcements from IRM!
Hopefully there will be lots of announcements in 2022 but my gut feeling is it wont be 141/181 as has been pointed out the minimum production run would be at least 5000 unit plus and while some people would buy lots most people wouldn't buy that many(I have six from the 2009 run)so I might buy one or two , I think anyone doing a loco would do one that is hitting a fresh untouched market like the 121 or the A class that would guarantee good sales . At the end of the day its all about sales while some seem to think 141/181 would sell like hot cakes yes they certainly would to anyone who missed out or new entrants to the hobby but established modellers may not buy in sufficient numbers to justify 5000+ which have to be paid for up front .
My own personal wish would be a C/B201 class which had a number of versions and liveries including a NIR version which would sell well as no RTR has been done of it up to now .

I would think you should pick up some A class or a 121 class that are still available and you could them to swap sell them depending on your era.

Makes such a difference especially going to the effort to colour the various pipes.

Great videos , I also went for the2 x iPhone speakers as they were relatively inexpensive per unit and were very easy to fit without having to carry out too many modifications to the loco .

Well done as a fledgling Irish company in an established market place it’s a fabulous achievement. So proud of your success.

I recently fitted a iphone speaker to a MM 181 and it was easier than I thought .

Like yourself did a little research and I recently took the plunge with a NCE powercab(everything you need is in the box ) and fitted one of my 121 class and an A class with sound chips and I was blown away ! The MM141/181 require a speaker to be fitted but not that difficult either to do .

Now all I need to do is start my new layout so I can run them!
And so say all of us! If the arrivial of the A class doesn't spur the rest of us into action nothing will !

Any chance of a light grey foam insert next time, lads???
The black doesn't display too well.
Anybody have ideas on how to display the locos using the packaging?
I'm playing with ideas, and have so far settled on the method to the right in the photo.
And to the "trains are to be played with" brigade, pee off, I'm not interested, go get a job.
There are plenty of laser foam cutting firms around the place that would cut the foam any colour you want .
