What does the train host do except hide in the guard's compartment when the train gets full? No disrespect to the staff but how does their presence compensate for over crowding, no seat booking information and an announcement speaker that sounds like a gramaphone from the 1930s. I see the same gentleman on the Wexford route regularly and even asked the ticket checker what their role was. He had no idea. By the way anyone ever see the selll by date on the Danish pastries sold.from the catering trollies? In a nuclear war only those Danish pastries and cockroaches will remain!!!
  3. Hi guys, does anyone have any info on the original opened in Wexford (Carcur) on 17 August 1872? Are there any photos or plans in existence? The current station opened in August 1874 I believe.
  4. Any one know if Irish Rail insisted on the new bridge, built as part of the New Ross bypass, being strong enough to carry rail traffic? I know its unlikely it would ever be needed for rail traffic again but am just curious as to what conditions are enforced.
  5. Is RM railway modeller or railway magazine?

  7. Hi guys, Anyone have any news on what is happening at Blarney castle. Saw this in line if the railway mags last week. Is there a plan to restore some of the The Cork & Muskerry Light Railway / tramway? Was also mentioned on the new Chris Tarrant programme on Irish railways. https://www.my5.tv/chris-tarrant-extreme-railways-1219cca5-833d-4cab-b0ae-80214c25417f/season-5/chris-tarrant-extreme-railway-journeys-4afccd76-62c5-4973-93c2-41465029412f
  8. Are many wagons showing the buffwr problems? Can anything be done about the drooping? Have not checked mine yet as have been away.
  9. As DrveController mentioned, has anyone any idea who the green containers belong to? You often see orange ones as well,. A list of frequently see containers would be most useful. Thanks guys.
  10. I agree, it would be great to have some IRM super detailed laminates and Park Royals to run with the A Class locos. So many different prototypical rakes could be created.
  11. Thanks for the clarification guys
  12. They look great. I notice the bogies look different to the photos of the samples shown earlier in the thread. Can you confirm the springs etc are unpainted?
  13. Good explanation here: https://spraygunner.com/blog/types-of-airbrushes-few-things-you-should-know-before-buying-your-first-airbrush/ Also some good courses if you are near the venue: https://airbrushes.com/product_info.php?products_id=22721
  14. Dear Santa, Can I have an overdraft for Christmas please and an extension on the house to store all the models that overdraft will buy?????? I have been good(ish)
  15. Not heard any dates. Mark's models.still to confirm the price and Kernow Models in the UK have said they will be stocking them but no mutiple.buy discount will be available.
  16. I tend to be reliant on postal deliveries and as i am away with work often I get parcels sent to my place of work. I have always found Hattons, Rails and some of the German suppliers nothing but helpful and the level of detail and information on line diminishes the need to see items 'in the flesh' before buying. Whenever I have phoned they are patient and understanding of any requests I have made especially requests for extra care with packing etc. I support the Irish shops where I can but for large purchases the cost difference can be too much especially when sterling drops in our favour..
  17. Will be interesting to see the local Irish price.
  18. There are a number of craven coaches and a few class 201 locos for sale with 40% off at Heraldic Artists 3 Nassau St, Dublin 2, D02 PX49, Ireland Shop is closing down sadly. Worth a visit as there quite a few corgi models and po gauge tractors etc which might be of interest.
  19. Really impressive guys. Congrats.
  20. Not sure if it is a bargain but some 071s available on a German site. https://www.menzels-lokschuppen.de/Modellbahnen/Dieselloks/Murphy-Models-MM0082-IE-Diesellok-Class-071-Ep-5-6.html?listtype=search&searchparam=murphy
  21. Hi guys, one last photo kindly supplied by the guys in Rosslare Maritime Centre from a book by J Merrigan and B Clearers - 'Let Go Fore and Aft' A History of the Fishguard & Rosslare Railways and Harbours Company p26. According to the guys who were working ion the port at the time, cars were driven on to flat loaders at the land side, pushed by train to ramp where the last carriage can be seen and driven off by staff to be lifted onto the boat by crane. There were few cars transported in reality compared to today's traffic given a) the service was quite expensive and b) there was not the same volume of car ownership.
  22. Railway infrastructure: Commission urges GREECE and IRELAND to enact EU law on rail market opening and governance Today, the Commission decided to send a reasoned opinion to Greece and Ireland urging them to communicate the national measures taken to transpose EU rules on the opening of the market for domestic passenger transport services by rail and the governance of the railway infrastructure (Directive (EU) 2016/2370) which are parts of the 4thRailway Package. In December 2016, Member States agreed to transpose the Directive into national law by 25 December 2018. In January 2019, the Commission sent a letter of formal notice requesting Greece and Ireland to comply with the Directive. To date, however, Greece and Ireland have still not communicated to the Commission which measures have been taken to that end. They now have two months to comply with their obligations; otherwise, the Commission may decide to refer the cases to the Court of Justice of the EU.
