  1. Hi All, A quick question, I have several T&D Chivers 009 model kits bodies assembled and would like to add handrails and knobs to add more detail to the loco. I have Alan Gibson short knobs and brass wire, but very little experience as to how to go about it. I even have a small hand drill to cut a hole in the whitemetal body. If anyone can assist let me know Here is 5T seen overlooking Slea Head and the Blaskets, surely the furthest a T&D loco has gone!

Well they can send the only bit of original T&Dness there to us if they like? 5T remains in pieces and its long term future very unknown...I'll post some pics of artefacts I have in a separate forum for those interested, it includes a T&D Tyers token dating from 1895, several weigh bills, and carriage plates etc.
  5. I think the Chester Model Railway Group were there at the weekend and brought their 12mm collection of T&D stock.......when the leave I think it reverts back to a Jinty on 00 gauge track. Looks quite well.

  7. JB this is quite correct I used the train quite a lot in 2014 and 2015. Majority of passengers go as far as Nenagh...very few after...which is why I think it was ridiculous investing in the Nenagh - Limerick section with a vastly improved motorway being built adjacent. If the line was terminated at Nenagh the same rolling stock could be used to double the frequency on the Nenagh - Ballybrophy section at more suitable times for passengers, this has been indicated in the Aecom Report published relatively recently within the past few years. Also when on the train I know of a handful of people that DROVE to Ballybrophy from Nenagh to commute!!!! They always got the 18:00 back to Ballybrophy to collect their cars
  8. Yes the composite brake 13T was a regular on the line, my grandfather travelled on it as a schoolboy!   9. David thanks..I must say the CVR stock you have is stunning! I would like to do a T&D version but my skills are non existant at the moment. I'll find space for 7mm NG and will update you all. Points noted on chassis and you are probably right!

Hi All, Just a quick question, I have recently become owner of a 1:43 scale model of Castlegregory station building, which would seem to suggest I should do a 7mm narrow gauge model of Castlegregory.... However....I have one fully built T&D 2-6-2T in 009, two 2-6-0T bodies assembled, and one "in the works" although neither have chassis at the minute. There is a Chivers 7mm version of the T&D 2-6-0T, there are etches available for carriages etc but I'm terrified of brass Finally I've a reasonable collection of 00 stuff like an 071 (077), 201 (220), 141 (143/177), 181 (187) about 4 cravens, and the same MK2Ds...plus a host of Hornby/Bachmann mostly LMS locos. That I will probably dispose of over time. Question is which do I do?! I would like to go ahead with a narrow gauge model of Castlegregory but which scale? Any help would be great

  13. Yes it was! it was €520.......probably undervalue though given its rarity! Funnily a second Kerry (staff) Glenbeigh to Killorglin sold for €500. Also accidentally got the CBPR axle box!

From my volunteering experience in Waterford recently, the new greenway there is making a huge impact with the gift shop at Kilmeaden (depsite not being open yet!). a consideration is being given to a bicycle wagon for prams and bicycles. But then you come to railway preservation itself, I can name every active member in this country it is so small. I know Facebook groups may have hundreds of members if not thousands but volunteering on rails is a very minor percentage, I am one of those who are active in stradbally but i can recall days where we have had just enough staff to operate a service
  16. Minister it would be a help for more volunteers to help on currently operating lines! I can count on two hands ACTIVE railway volunteers and they deserve great credit.....but agreed on your statement....
  17. Tony, I had debated doing a narrow/broad gauge set up at one point and came to the conclusion that 009 and 00 gauge would be the best option. I even went out and got a T&D 3rd brass kit (no idea how to put together - poor soldering skills!) there are UK narrow gauge 009 locos such as the WHHR Russell that is a hunslet very like 5T, and several freelance similar "Hunslety" locos.......I think it was Mayner that suggested using a T&D backwoods body and using a Bemo chassis use side skirts (prototypical 1890's) to hide the chassis to make the layout easier. The company that has taken over Chivers i think is called Fivelines, they do an awesome T&D loco kit to retro fit a 00 gauge V1/V2 bachmann chassis.....the only disadvantage is that its 7mm narrow gauge and rolling stock would be more difficult to procure

Does the government not realise that DART underground had the capacity to add millions of extra passengers to the network, not to mention direct Dublin Airport - Dublin city centre - Cork/Limerick and Galway trains. This could have allowed the government to reduce subvention proportionatly given increased ticket receipts. The extension to the airport has been lobbied by Irish Rail for the past 15 years or so, the land is available etc. sure there would be congestion from Connolly - clongriffin but this will need to be looked at anyway. A situation where Enterprise and commutter services could have stopped providing a shuttle interchange with a DART shuttle could have been looked at. Where does this leave the Maynooth, Hazlehatch and Balbriggan electrification schemes (as planned with DART underground) now?

  21. Hi folks the up to date position. Our impromptu Grouping met a month ago in Tralee and held a Meeting .What followed that day was a photo taken with our Town Engineer and a marvellous article in The Kerryman Newspaper by marisa reidy see link attached http://www.independent.ie/regionals/kerryman/lifestyle/we-want-to-get-our-train-back-on-track-30943062.html , which ( excuse the pun ) helped set off a head of steam , for the regenerated Campaign. The Blennerville Windmill Company controls the Steam Railway facility - dormant now for nearly seven years. The informal group met on the 21st Feb in Tralee and following a short Meeting, visited The Blennerville facility and then walked the Rail Line, including an evaluation of the track with sleeper inspection and rail inspection. All is not as worse feared, and is very easily rectified. At 4.15pm , we then met Jim Finucane, MCC & Tralee District Mayor. He was accompanied by John Griffin , representing KCC who has a proven record, going all the way back to the original Project in getting The Tralee - Blennerville Steam Line , up in running in 1995. We have had, what we describe, as a preliminary sounding out Meeting .We will meet again , with John & Jim , to present a detailed Proposal. We are not at one Yet , in the way they perceive control over the project succeeding and where we see it going. We see a very Volunteer orientated Organisation, which we believe , may appeal to them , when they see the fuller picture. A 3ft diesel loco has been identified. In the meantime , we need to stabilise and formulate our structure. We have lots of work to do and we need people to Volunteer their Services - where they feel that they have a particular Skill level ? So basically , an Audit of Talents , is immediately needed and then we can assess where we are going .We are setting our perceptive sites on 2016 or late 2015 at the earliest, to get this project up and running - if we succeed in selling our ability and skills to the current Company and Kerry County Council. check the facebook page which has now grown massively to over 530 members! http://www.facebook.com/groups/traleeanddinglesteamrailway/ http://traleesteamrailway.webs.com Eddie Barrett & Darragh Connolly

  23. no idea of the photographer of this pic its dromod in the early 1990's showing what looks like a GSWR wooden bodied cabin....I think it could be ardfert (abbeydorney is still in existence with levers I believe!) or it could be the rock street one you refer to JB.
  24. I think someone involved down there removed the axle from the crane jibs and swapped it with the centre axle from the WLWR composite now at halfway!!!
  25. don't forget ballybay, newbliss, maguiresbridge or somewhere out that direction? Gormanstown at dromod, and several boarded up GNR examples at howth and Sutton etc..
