  1. Nor I! I think I'll skip using that site. Wanna go from Dublin Airport to Shannon? - spend 5 and a half hours on a bus.
  2. yeah, and it doesn't like me either. Dirty binary code *shakes fist in anger*
  3. It's a bit wonky all right. You can't direct link to the bus or train routes to see what times suit. The whole point I would have thought. Also, it doesn't like my neck of the woods in Dublin and suggests that I get out in O'Connell Street and walk through the sludge of humanity. Next stop, Myhome.ie..... edit - tried going from my spot in Limerick to Sligo, and it recommends I spend the night in Waterford Bus Station.
  4. Are there two further main lines to be added to the outside edge of the boards, where the diamond crossing is on the eighth photo down? [trying to visualise the end result] and what did you use for the cable trunking? Cord from a strimmer?

A credit to you des, I can't wait to see her with all the bells and whistles on, rust dirt & grime. Oooooh sweeet!
  6. Nice one Des! Thanks for the great comments, especially Rich, I'm truly humbled.
  7. Cheers Weshty, but that bridge was a nightmare. Resin/plaster is definitely the solution! gimme an industrial girder bridge any day! http://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Smiths_Components_for__OO__.html They do them for a tenner, but that's a joke frankly. This is my method so far using garden ties... painful... a lot of trimming and fiddly bits...
  8. Thanks all. Unfortunately Broithe I have quite a lot of signal boxes to do, and so shelling out £15 for an internal kit more than doubles the cost of the finished article. I've offered after-market before, and no-one has plumped for it...! Kirley, I've seen your layout thread, and it's lining up to be a first rate layout. Buildings only do so much for a layout. The rolling stock and railway operations create the atmostphere;) Richie
  9. Evening All, Been steadily working away on multiple projects since I last updated this thread. Had a break too, but when I got back I made an effort to finish some projects that have been sitting around for a bit. Then there are other projects I can't post up photos of [just yet] but they will be in the flesh at Raheny hopefully. So first up is the Amiens Street Signal box that I had started two pages back. I've the brackets done for the walkway, and a test piece made from balsa and brass wire. It's going to be a bit of a challenge completing that part, along with the stairs, but it will be worth it. I've done a bit of internal detailing, and am finishing up token machines etc. but I'm bunched on the levers. I'm on my third idea now, and getting a bit frustrated... The base is for the derelict version and the cabin is for a pristine version. Right across from it in Connolly Yard, there is a little buff brick building that was probably a staff room or office prior to the large extension to the rear of Connolly Shed. It's quite a cute little thing but a bugger to get the windows right. The there is the water tower I showed last week with the rust "tutorial". It's going on Bosko's layout along with the one from the LMS yard. I need to add the plunger mechanism to both. IF anyone has a photo looking into a water tower I'd be grateful to get a copy. The LMS yard tower... and the tower from Connolly Platform also... [it was a Kit Kat ad originally, but I thought the darkness of the guinness ad was more in keeping with look. Lastly, there's a station building for Kirley Junction, or a restored Navan Railway Station. I have to say this was a really satisfying piece to build, and since Kirley's modelling era is CIE/UTA onward, we decided that there would be little or no signage on it. There was a beautifully detailed canopy out front, which will be hopefully added as etched brass when I'm doing the same for Malahide shortly. So now I'm off to finish 40 odd containers for a container port and re-spray another truck of some description! Richie.
  10. Wow. Drool fest. Cheers broithe.
  11. Fair play seamus. I looked up the planning file on that building the last time I was at home and there was sod all like that. It captures a great time. Incidentally, out of all the counties in Ireland, limerick appears to have the most diverse range of railway buildings and influences - cut stone, brick, lime plaster, and all manner of styles in between. Perhaps I'm biased though.....
  12. Fair Dinkum! I meant "strips" not "lumps"...
  13. What if the containers are made of card? Magnets not much use then. How do they work with plastic containers? Do you have to retrofit them with lumps of metal?
  14. I'll definitely grab a copy. Intrigued about the sneaky question...[off to scour everything des coakham wrote - it must be in there!] Richie
  15. http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/5739804618/in/set-72157626638886303 http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/5739809040/in/set-72157626638886303 Prior to reach stackers, you'd have to find the mast type, which are like large forklifts with two prongs to go into openings on the containers and lift vertically, falling back against the mast. Those openings are gone from most containers now, only found on 10ft & 20ft containers. I think a walthers one dirtied up and a bit rusty would look dead on. Richie.
  16. Cheers Broithe, I forgot to mention the brass wire for that one. That's another tenner. But cutting out the 42 stair treads would defo send him round the bend. Richie.
  17. I know its fairly toy like, but to achieve a decent looking gantry crane you'd have to spend mega wonga, and poor ol' vinny is short on cash. That was my thinking based on his post. Personally, I think they all look fairly non-irish and would suggest that he pony up the £40 for the styrene, and scratchbuild this beasty..... Bosko could work out the electronics!
  18. Would this fella painted yellow suit your needs? It appears kind of reasonable pricewise too? http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/lima/hl8000_container_crane.htm
  19. What happen's if we thump the 158th ranked team in the world 3 or 4 nil? We reset the clock, keep plugging away, and hope we qualify only to embarrass ourselves in front of the world's cameras again? To quote Roy Keane from some month's ago, he was, in hindsight, bang on. "They want to see the team winning – let’s not kid ourselves, we’re a small country, we’re up against it, but let's not just go along for the sing-song every now and again.” We need to demand more.
  20. build a model railway?...that would slow him down a bit! Combined quote of the Month!!!
  21. from Wikipedia -John Delaney has overseen the appointments of Stan Staunton and Giovanni Trappattoni as Ireland managers and the corresponding decline in the standing of Irish football. How can Delaney justify his position, and salary, since he has done sweet fanny adams for the game here? Yeah, bought a couple pints for the lads abroad, but he takes home the average industrial annual salary every month. If he was the CEO of a public company and the share price rose and fell according to his companies results and performance, he'd be on the scrapheap by now. And the clown has never kicked a ball. The Delaney dynasty has been entrenched at the top table at FAI for thirty odd years, remember George the Greek who took off with £200,000 of the FAI's money back in 1996? The gold watches? Fran Rooney? Disgusting organisation that needs to be cleaned out. Trappatoni - If Trap cannot communicate to journo's in a room, how in the hell can he communicate to footballers running around a training ground pitch? He is detached from the bunch of guys running around on the pitch, and will always be. Any fool can stand on a sideline and shout and point meaninglessly and look like they are in control. The Players - These guys get paid to do this for 33 weeks of the year, but everytime I watch them it looks like they've only met in the pub an hour ago. I hate to say this, but I'd like them to lose about 3 or 4 nil, and let the whole sorry lot come tumbling down. Then get Katie Taylor to manage them spoiled pups. Richie the Greek
  22. Excellent value. Whatever about the brush, it appears to have a decent compressor. Perfect for things like spraying and weathering track... hint hint bosko...
  23. Can't recommend the second book enough snapper, always to be found on sale at any of the shows. [it was one of Des Coakham's classics not Colin Boocock's]
  24. Rob, I found this page by accident on Wikipedia, and I think it might be useful as a reference guide, especially if it's a location or a specific time period that interests you. Welcome aboard too! Richie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliography_of_Irish_rail_transport
