  1. Cheers Snapper, found photos to back that up. Ta=D
  2. Since we're on topic of Sperry unit, can anyone confirm that it's identical both sides? Would make a nice little scratchbuild project...
  3. I know! A dose of the "thick" swept over me. It's only a few miles from where I'm from. Used to go to the garden centre beyond.
  4. [video=youtube_share;LweAA7LaoE8]http://youtu.be/LweAA7LaoE8 Not sure what was thrown at poor Fred Dean Jnr. toward the end, it wasn't roses.
  5. Whataya know! An iPlayer link that works outside of the UK! Cheers Kirley. Richie. Edit - A fabulous programme worth recording. Love the Brookeborough story about the level crossing.
  6. Remarkable stuff, particularly the drop in point "construction". It was all looking a bit Heath Robinson for a while, but a fabulous result. Thx for posting.
  7. I spent most of the day out there Saturday, and met up with quite a few heads - Dartstation, GM071, Warbonnet, Anthony and of course, Wrenneire. Even got to [nearly] finish a model for Anthony, then forgot to take photos of it:((. Craic was had indeed, and I wondered why there wasn't a poster up for this forum!
  8. Your price lists were much discussed and distributed nonetheless! Quick raft of snaps from the show. Really well organised, good location and a few yummy mummies to boot. A swiss N gauge layout from South Dublin Club, a very tidy bit of work, with two levels of running lines. Dorset Street Junction - from the MRSI - O gauge layout with some tasty cream and brown coaches and locos too. An idyllic single line country scene running different stock from the 50's/60's period.
  9. Will post more general photos from the show in the Dun Laoghire topic. Richie.
  10. I managed to get in before the doors opened, and Sir Murphy was good enough to let me take some photo's at the rear of the case without glass reflections. Absolute gent he is. Enjoy. Taken just before he dropped the NIR version. Twice.
  11. Beat me to the Punch, John! I was looking through Irish Broad Gauge Carriages by Des Coakham last night and it has photos of the wagon above, along with the tale of the shunting accident. If I recall rightly, there is mention of about 6 different horseboxes, each of a different design with photos and dimensions of each. There are versions from UTA, Sligo Leitrim, MGWR, GSR, and all the other pre amalgamation companies. It's a worthwhile publication to have to hand, and still available on Amazon etc. Would highly recommend it to anyone interested in late steam/early diesel period.
  12. Thanks lads, and apologies for not updating the thread more regularly. I thought I'd post a few shots of smaller, and more detailed buildings that i've been working on the past while. It's nice to break away from super sheds and do some research! Des, this is the badly damaged Malahide up close, lot's of changes to the way the model is put together since that version. Window mullions not made from card, don't let the cat sneeze on it, brick palette is less washed out, that kind of thing! Then there is the bauld Ballykay - Hendley's grocers to be precise. I decided that the owner would be caught in a sort of timewarp of old hb and lotto signs, with a new one to keep current. A few last bits to go, but getting there! real building - http://www.flickr.com/photos/tom-margie/1156505766/ Something a bit more rail related - not really based on any prototype, but very southern all the same. I've put more splay on the retaining walls and taken the blue out of the stone, so I should have her finished this evening. Lastly, I'm working on the old old signal box for Amiens Street Station, a pristine version, and a version that may have survived, but with windows blanked out etc. Problem is I can count on one hand the number of photographs I have from books and Swiss Ernies collection. I reckon it was demolished in the mid 1950's, and I'm a bit stuck on the upper rear side. I know from photos that the levers were all to the font, so am I right to assume that the most [6] of the 8 bays to the rear would be blanked out and filled with token machines, naughty playtex calendars, stoves and that? I know someone tacked on a "convenience" at high level at the northern end, but that's as much as I know. If anyone can shed any more light on it, i'd be very grateful. Richie.
  13. Crikey! A 30 kg compressor is handy all right if you're spraying the odd coach, only if you're modelling at 12 inch to the foot though. . Steer Clear!
  14. I have to say it's a fabulous book, plenty photos, anecdotes of robbing whiskey and chickens from the goods vans, and the bigger picture of what went on at "management" level to try and keep the railways open. There are also some harrowing stories, to be expected. Thoroughly recommended. Richie.
  15. What the lads said and a bit of research thereafter [and many thanks too guys] is kinda scaring me, not so much from a looks point of view, but from a wiring perspective. Not to reopen the whole chat on 21mm standards, but I thought something close to prototypical for points/crossovers might offset the gauge argument - I hadn't even considered the wiring side of it. I will be down next wednesday, Rich Tea in hand [keep the diabetics happy:p], and would love to have a look.
  16. Dave, is that laser cut or the tidiest bit of carpentry/joinery i've seen in quite some time? Could one shave with those edges?
  17. - Tar and/or feathers involved?
  18. very clever! Maybe we could turn this recent business of abusing our national flag into a cottage industry? Get the lolz from Merkel etc.?
  19. Works like a charm, great quality, thanks snapper.
  20. Evening All, Has anybody got any experience of working with Marcway or similar [perhaps custom] super long express points with Peco code 75? If anyone has any good/bad experiences I'd love to hear them to avoid any potential pitfalls. It's for a DCC layout too. Thanks in advance. Richie.
  21. Mess? What mess? I see a recreation of a very serious rail accident involving lots of locos on their sides. Since it may take weeks for the inspectors to arrive I suggest a hasty cover up and pretend like nothing ever happened.
  22. Lads, what difference does it make? As long as the fella taking the chassis out of the machine/soldering the doo-hickey to the thingemybob/ pouring the orange paint into the printer/ ticks the Q&A box on his clipboard is the same fella who's been doing it for years for the "manufacturer", we're in safe hands. http://www.kader.com.hk/our_business/manufacturing_services.html If it said Kader Holdings HO Scale American GM 071, I'd still buy one. Richie.
