Just checked my survey notebook against the photo. the buffer casing is 450mm long and the buffer itself is another 150mm beyond that, or 2 feet in old money. It's quite standard for the 14' wheelbase /22' flat wagons.

Taken in Inchicore, Dublin Dave, the main works depot in Ireland. One of the sidings to the rear of the complex that is inaccessible but to the lucky few!

I suppose you could, but if you're going to go to the trouble of making a 21mm model, the prestwin chassis is far from ideal. You would only end up using the two solebars only,stripped of the hanger detail present, needing a new buffer beam, buffers, coupling hook, brake gear, wagon base and so on. Getting 3.2mm styrene channel and starting from scratch would produce a far more accurate wagon. I'm sure you can get fold up brass w-irons for 21mm, the rest would just be whitemetal detail.

It's used for opening and closing the drawer, not spinning the disc.

I got a few from Modeltorque a few years ago, and noticed no improvement on running ability at all. As far as I know the motor itself is identical to the ones in DVD/CD drives but as Dave rightly says, they're designed for short burst operation, rather than continuous use. A quick google using the terms "modeltorque dvd drive" should inform further.

I know the buffer spacing is wider than the UK spacing, so can't really comment on width, but one assumes so to take advantage of the loading gauge. How we dealt with the width issue is simple. It is modelled to scale in all respects, leaf springs and W irons all in the right place. The rear face is smooth (for tooling reasons) but where the axel goes is a little collar which protrudes about 1.75mm. (about the same dia as the shank of a cotton bud). This acts as the bearing point for the axle for those using 16.5mm wheels. To use 21mm wheelsets, simply file down the collar and insert wheelsets. No brass top hat bearings or reaming out etc. Well at least that's the theory. R

See how the font colour is almost identical to the base colour of 216? Get prepared for shillelaghs and all celtic tat. Darby O'Gill may even get a look in.

Most likely answer is that its a base coat for some very complicated vinyl work. (and an absolute hoor to replicate in 00 I'd imagine.... )

I bought a Flying Scotsman 10 years ago, and the photo was of a superb looking thing altogether. What turned up was a mess, with the front bogie hanging off like a dislodged testicle. I pretty much put that in the feedback, and oddly enough, he wasn't keen to rectify the issue. It's still in a "dysfunction" state

Joe, I'm assuming it's a roundy roundy with those dimensions. At a minimum 2 feet will be eaten up at either end for the curves, but a MK3 will oversail the curve much earlier. I would say a conservative guesstimate would be no longer than 4 feet/1200mm. This will accommodate a 201 and three coaches. Width should be around 3 inches/ 76mm at a height of 1 inch / 25mm above baseboard level. That make sense? R

Sorry Kieran, that's a pity, but I just notice that if you filled in one of the gangway crosswalk openings, you'd have vehicle IE 742, or as close as. It appears to be the same designation. Defo going to invest in a kit. R.

Kieran, Here are some prototype photos of 750 (not mine, First is Fred Dean's, forgot to note copyright holders of the other three) And after I did some butchery to the Brittania Pacific model. I may have over-egged it on the decal front..... Richie.

The only difference between the two is a ballast cleaning plough, minor details, that come etched which you can use, or not. Plasser 08-16 C80RT is the one. I'll dig out some photos for you. R.
