  1. Oh i meant i soldered the wires from my controller to the track itself. Sorry for lack of clarity. Meaning i dont think it is a commumication problem between controller and track. I fitted the dcc chips by removing the blanking plate and pushing it on carefully. Think i got that right . I will post a pic later.
  2. Me again! I tried two different hattons 21 pin chips in three diff locos -141, 181,071 . I have a small program track set up. Wires are soldered and the connection is good. However, i cant get any reading from the chip. Is it possible i have two dud chips? Seems unlikely, but i cant find any other probs. Locos are more or less new and clean just run in a bit on dc. Thanks

  4. Thanks lads much appreciated. Will do it tomorrow eve in daylight.
  5. Folks, Please see pic and thank you for any advice. I will be fitting a dcc 21 pin chip to this 181. Is the chip in the pic a blanking type chip ? Do I just pull it off? Any tips to help me avoid wrecking stuff!!!
  6. Many many thanks. So a hattons 21 pin will do the141/181 , but Ineed something with 6 functions for the 071. I presume a murphy sound chip does all these functions plus sound?
  7. Thanks for the replies and advice. I have taken the plunge and went for the Hornby DCC E-LINK and railmaster system. It should arrive any day now. I was tempted by NCE but I like the fact that I can use existing laptop/android to run the latout. I mucked about with the trial version and it certainly has plenty to offer. Also, it is a very visual system, so that should help me get my head round it all. Better order a test decoder or two to go with it!!! ☺
  8. Yo dudes, Is there any difference between 8 pin and 21 pin chips as far as functionality goes? I dont know whether to get 21 pin chips or adapters and 8 pins for my Murphys. Also. Hattons do own brand decoder chips at a good price. Any experience of these? Any good? Many thanks
  9. 112 sits in york rd every morning. You can glimpse it as you pass. Wouldnt mind one myself.
  10. Just thinking if they are mk3 with the black and window glass all in one piece then they come out easy. Gentle push from inside from one end to other does it.
  11. Oh and i agree with NIRCLASS80. Dont worry if the window glass strip breaks. Just make a new one from any clear plastic.
  12. Yes I used them for mine. Mine are not the best respray job but plenty others have examples on the workbench section. decals are also available from studio scale models.
  13. Love this wee movie

    space

Sometimes when i am driving I imagine allsorts of features and sidings for the layout. Then i get home and realise there would never be enough space! Imagination is a wonderful thing...
  15. Picked up a couple of the Ian Allen ABC books online. For 1 penny plus 2 quid postage. I am learning all about lighted signals .
  16. So this fella says to me "Youve been living in ulster a while now, so will you be for donegal tomorrow" I gave him a 'look'.
  17. Just google maps with satellite turned on :-) . A daft way to while away an hour !
  18. Spent the last hour wandering around ireland on google maps playing spot the train. North wall is cool but up in York Rd there are two 111/071 and a couple of 201s.
  19. I found these amongst my old things. Unbuilt kits complete with Marks Models prices from years ago... those are Punts prices! Building the superquick now. I love the way i never threw anything out!
  20. Very good. But wordy indeed. Must plonk a plastic cow on the line and follow procedure.
  21. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/161404173551?nav=SEARCH Cement silo. Not sure of the scale.
