  1. Lol it's bad when you don't know you be there !!!
  2. Great footage Jb when did the grey livery on the station get introduced and when did it go to blue Thanks
  3. Ah supertrain you just have to love it
  4. JB, given its super train era, how come the station is blue and not grey
  5. cravens, far too modern , I preferred a motley collection of park royals and laminates , steam heating either fully on and like a sweat house or freezing, preferably with a dodgy battery and dynamo ( non-TL) lightening , such that you are plunged into darkness at every station stop. ah the late 70s on the Limerick to rosslare run for a 6'4" bloke the 3+ 2 bench seating has never been surpassed, as for seating in ICR 22K, OMG, can it get any worse
  6. All these notices you see disclaiming responsibility are of course bunkum, but they are placed there in a long established procedure of trying to mitigate any resulting damages
  7. Naw pic sequence at the end. I can see myself what needs doing But more to go , some brake gear to add , sprung buffers , Dingham couplers etc
  8. Thanks every one , Ive successfully reapplied the halfords, then I take a few close up photos, which shows areas to fill in and tidy up pics coming soon, I want to compete it , and then publish all the photos etc At this stage Ive be dead before I build a fleet of wagons , boys more RTRs needed
  9. That's interesting , would you put Halfords etch primer then through a conventional airbrush ? , is there there a danger of everything drying inside the airbrush ? My workshop is inside anyway so at house temps , I'll warm the primer in a bath of water Don't worry , Broithe , I'm just going to use my blowlamp to heat the can up, see, everything is fin.............
  10. I'm at the stage of priming my brass etch ballast plough ( SsM ) but I find the grey etch primer very tricky to use , as it's difficult to stop too much paint going on and it cakes. I've already had to strip it off once ( and re do the plastikard detail grrr) Painting is always where I struggle. Any hints or tips on using this stuff.
  11. Have IE enough wagons to run longer trains ? The tests are using a combination of container bogies and wood trains . But these are unlikely to run together.
  12. Jhb171achill , you obviously have a tremendous photographic collection, perhaps you could give consideration to scanning them at high resolution and building an online photo album. I have a 1200 dpi a4 flatbed scanner I could lend you and set up an online album for you. These photos shouldn't be lost to history and I do t know how you are current,y scanning them , but they look low to medium resolution or just snapped using a smart phone , which tend to have terrible lighting It's an amazing resource The other option would be to look for contributions and get the whole collection converted to digital high resolution. It's an amazing resource
  13. That can be difficult to determine, in the days when I had a photographic pass ( ah the heady early 80s ) , It was always at the discretion of the Stationmaster, this seems to be the key person still today . Cooperation will depend on the individual and his or her workload etc , allow plenty of time to set it up and do it very much at their convenience . Most IE personnel are keen to cooperate, though I suspect its easier in areas of less frequent traffic if you have a specific request, PM me and I'll see if I have any information that might help you
  14. OK you know best, Im just telling you the situation as I know it from recent experience in 2015 in two different situations. Nor did I say it was as simple as wearing a high vis. You will not be allowed to be unaccompanied either. Nor did I say the heritage officer has any say over that permission, merely , in my experience an introduction from him is useful. you really could try to be more polite too.
  15. yes, its requires that you be accompanied by a suitable IE employee, into areas where the public are not allowed. There is of course no guarantee that any such access will be allowed
  16. I suggest you contact the station master in Limerick and explain your case You will need steel toe cap boots and a high viz vest, this is a must , confirm to him you have such items Generally they will arrange to accompany you , at a quiet time and let you do your stuff, AN introduction from the IE heritage officer will also help , details on him on IEs site, Ive found him helpful My experience is if you go through the correct channels , you will be accommodated
  17. dealer is in galway , I beleive , thats were I got mine
  18. I have the Hakko 888, excellent iron, the heat recovery is very fast
  19. Brilliant keep em coming re the bubble, are you saying it had a grey chassis and a brown tank ?
  20. Thanks, Would you believe , having stared at ballast plough for 3 weeks , Ive just realise the SSM model is missing a window, grrrrrrrrr, and I have it soldered together, it will be fun cutting it out now .......
  21. Thanks guys Would anyone , know where to get a drawing of the rebuilt GSWR ploughs, or even a drawing of them before rebuilding , according to O.Doyle, S Hirsch, they were 13' wheelbase compared to 12' for the CIE ploughs, I suspect they were longer overall to. Still trying to find out (a) when were some rebuilt by CIE ( so I can decide to model them as original , which is a trip to Downpatrick , or as CIE rebuilds) (B) when were the non rebuilt GSWR plough removed from service thanks again Dave
  22. Jhb171achill At least one GSWR 8456 was modified by Cie with outside sheeting and survived well into 2000s . Do you know they were converted and was it the only one. My view is that these " new" plough vans were yellow from the introduction of the new Cie built series in 1977, while the original GSWR ploughs would most likely have remained brown as you say Perhaps 8456 was the only GSWR plough to be rebuilt as I gather she suffered structural failure and was therefore rebuilt as a result Anyone have a drawing of the GSWR plough
  23. Thanks. I'd love to see any pics , upside down preferred. Brown it seems to be so. Was the pic of the new build plough van , painted a light colour for picture purposes and then painted brown ?
