  1. this maybe an e-tender issue. I know of consultants who are resigning from e-tender appointments as there fees were low and there is more lucrative work out there.
  2. This was on e-tenders this morning. 104974 - FCC/048/16 - Fingal County Council - Civil And Structural Engineering Consultant Services required for works at the Casino Building in Malahide in North County Dublin Response deadline: 16-05-2016 12:00 Irish time Procedure: 1. 5. TDR, as said above stunning stuff. Are the cement silos a self build or out of box?
  6. thanks lads, Kirley, I did think about the next one so I had a look on flea bay for another class 08, but disappointed with whats on offer and the prices (I think someone has picked this up on another thread).
  7. thanks for the comments guys. I'll try something with the connection rods, maybe black felt tip might work as I was afraid to prise them off. As for the paint, straight from the can!!, a Halfords plastic grey undercoat (x2), it went on a bit heavy and 'blobbled' in places, got me worried that it might fill in some of the detail. The final 2 black coats was from my teenage sons grafitti stock (product name acrylic gold I think), the spray was much finer than the Halfords and it went on very evenly. What I forgot to photograph was the back end, the grey undercoat did a great job of hiding the wasp strips (remember the SF photos?).
  8. Hi, thought I'd post these I have a class 08 hornby shunter, someone posted shots of what SF done with them a while back and I decided to have a go myself. Its far from perfect so if you find it offensive look away!! I've never done anything remotely like this before (it shows), but im happy with the result. The orange on the CIE roundal disappeared , might have something to do with the paint.
  9. Morning all, saw this on e-tenders this morning, thought it might be of some interest. 95230 - WH9901 - Refurbishment Works at Moate and Castletown Railway Stations 'Refurbishment of various disused structures at Moate and Castletown railway stations. These buildings are Protected Structures. Works are generally external and include roof removal, re-roofing, cleaning and repairing brickwork and stonework, bricking up of window and door opes, security doors, new timber cladding and repairs to woodwork.'
  10. Noel, thats correct, I took the bachmann 4 function from an orange 071 and put it in the grey, it ran (very well), but no external lights. When I put the MM decoder in the grey, the instant the wheels touched the track BOTH front and back cab lights came on without function request from the controller, but no movement. As the external lights in the grey didnt work with the bachmann decoder, me thinks it might be more than the MM decoder thats in trouble.
  11. Geoff, which type of decoder did you initially use, and which one got it working?
  12. Noel, I forgot to say, I have a 4 function decoder in an orange 071, all the external lights work bot directions, with the exception of the cab lights, I think a 6 function decoder is required for that.
  13. Thanks for the reply Noel, the DCC controller is fine, all other locos preforming, looks like a visit to Hawkins Street tomorrow so !!
  14. I recently purchased an MM 071 Grey along with the MM decoder. I ran on the 071 on a DC track to run it in, preformed perfectly. I then fitted the decoded, put it on a program track, gave it an address (hornby elite) and then put it on the main track. As soon as the wheels touched the track, the cab lights at both ends lit up and it would not move. I addressed it a few times same thing happened, the decoder got a bit hot and began to smell. I took the MM decoder out of the grey and replaced it with a bachmann 4 function decoder from another 071 I have. I didnt give it a new address, the grey ran perfectly, however none of the functions for the running lights would work. To save me a trip to Dublin, does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem maybe and any possible solutions. I suspect that it maybe more than the decoder as the running lights wouldnt work with the bachmann decoder. Help!!
  15. thanks for the replays guys. Dive, when joined to form a crossover, the parallel tracks are correct at 67mm apart, which is the modular dimension that hornby use. Its the length of the straight part, just seems odd.
  16. Im thinking of getting some Hornby express points (R8077 & R8078), but I had a look at them using anyrail. They have an odd geometry length that dont appear to fit in with standard lengths (i,e R600 or R601). They can be brought back to regular joint spacings using a couple of R610, which I dont like (more joints). Aside from cutting track, am I missing a trick here?
  17. what have you got against goodfella's College days in Bolton Street.......sometime in the late 1980's !!
  18. looks good to me, now I want one (along with a 121 and an A class, a suitcase full of used 50 euro notes a harley davidson gold wing....)
  19. Mayner, I;ve never seen the Blue Point Switches before. They look interesting, whats their longevity like, is the throw adjustable?
  20. Richrua, thanks for posting the photo of some underboard wiring. Im in the same boat as you with wiring. For the uninitiated could you describe what im looking at, are you working off a main bus DCC supply, where did you get the clips from, what point motors are you using, whats the yellow wire doing, what tonights lotto numbers....
  21. does anybody know if Marks Models in Hawkins Street will be open in good friday? cant find anything on the web site.
  22. nice one, couldnt make out what the loco was in the clip. This time next year, the oscars, best supporting prop.
  23. I was watching Chris O'Dowd's 'Moone Boy', I think it was recorded last week. There was a very short scene near the end in what was 'Boyle' train station featuring some cravens (I think). Just curious, did anybody else catch it?
  24. now we know who owns all the trains, great stuff.
  25. Noel, good idea, look forward to the results. Maybe sometime in the future a survey on the various DCC controllers and decoders?. P.S I still want a 121, actually two of them, running in consist
